Prep Dig will be covering multiple matches every week and featuring the players that stand out the most for their performances over the course of the season, but we’ll also preview some matches that have the potential to be very interesting ones.
The non-district matches are typically used for teams to find their best chemistry and fine-tune their games ahead of the start of district play, but some encounters will be very exciting ones. Here’s one of them:
Ridge Point vs. Bridgeland – August 15, 5:30 PM – @ Ridge Point HS
Players to Watch:
One of the top players in the class of 2025 in the entire state, Rogers is a powerful and very complete outside hitter. The offense is probably what stands out the most in her game as she gets off the floor really well, has a heavy right arm and excellent shot selection to put the ball down. There’s much more she does for her teams, though, including passing at a very high level and making important defensive plays on the back. Rogers is also consistently improving her top spin jumpserve, which has the potential to become a very important weapon for the teams she plays for.
Ridge Point had a number of options to replace star outside hitter Sydney Jordan, who graduated last season, and Robinson seems to have been the first to be given a chance to prove the starting lineup spot should be hers. A player with amazing physical tools, she’s smoother on the court than many would expect and does an excellent job in terms of continuing to improve her game. She’s a player that doesn’t feel the moments of pressure and had a stellar club season with Houston Skyline. There’s a very good chance Robinson becomes the focal point of Ridge Point’s offense during the season and she’s more than ready to embrace this role.
Highlights
The Panthers also entered the season with questions to be answered in the middle after Arissa Smith graduated, but Johnson seems to have become a starter right at the start of the season. She was very strong during the club season and becomes more and effective as she continues to learn how to best use her incredible athleticism. Johnson is very long, gets off the floor well and has a quick arm on offense. Her reading of the game has also improved and with that her blocking has gotten better, especially because her timing is better now.
Highlights
A stellar libero for Bridgeland in each of her first three years of high school volleyball, Volpe will continue to be the team’s defensive rock this season. She has had some really impressive numbers to start the season, having produced 131 digs, 114 passes and 11 aces in just 21 sets. Very technical, consistent and intelligent, Volpe will be even more important to the Bears this season as the team lost some offensive power when compared to the last seasons and will depend on their defense to stay on games more often.
Pfefferkorn is another player who will need to step up and do more offensively for Bridgeland this season. As the team has some outstanding passers, she will be able to get set quite often and use her size and power to score points. Pfefferkorn has been consistently improving her game over the last few years and can now hit any set in the middle. She’s also an efficient blocker, who moves well at the net and uses her length to make stops. She’s up to a good start in her junior season, having registered 42 kills and 15 blocks so far.
