Some players just have knack for gelling with their teammates. That’s especially the case as athletes gain more experience with one another. There’s no more seasoned prep group than the Class of 2024, so there’s bound to be some dynamic duos in the Nebraska rankings.
Let’s discuss a few.
Highlights
How about a hitter-libero combo to start us off?
Frickenstein and Bojanski have helped maintain Archbishop Bergman’s status as a postseason mainstay—including a multi-year run of championship match appearances. When the Knights need a quick sideout, Frickenstein is always there to deliver. It all starts with the first contact, however, and this is where Bojanski steps up at the libero spot. This swan song season is bound to be a good one.
You could realistically expand the Norris combos to a trio, or even a quartet. We’ll hone in on Piening and Hausmann for this one.
Both have been key components to the massive DS platoon that Norris has on its roster. Hausmann, a Creighton commit, has wielded an incredibly effective serve to spark huge Titan scoring runs. That game-changing impact also encapsulates Piening’s game, as the Nebraska Wesleyan commit is bringing excellent passing and floor defense to the equation. This impenetrable senior duo has made its mark.
Middles galore!
There are not many middle blocker tandems like Ryan and Wood, and it’s no wonder why Overton is leading the charge in Class D2. Ryan has been almost unstoppable throughout her career, making a 0.400 hitting clip look like an ordinary feat. But Wood has carved her own path into the spotlight and is every bit as terminal in the frontcourt. This means that Overton’s opponents never get a “break” in any rotation—a truly dynamic duo.
Highlights
A classic. There’s nothing more satisfying than a strong setter-middle connection.
It’s not hard to see why Tvrdy and Hickey work together so cohesively. They’re effectively year-round teammates with Premier Nebraska and Papillion-La Vista. These innumerable reps have yielded a unit that few teams can stop. Tvrdy is one of the best volume scorers in the state, and Hickey has etched her permanent place in the Monarch record books.
Ball control wins championship, and GICC’s powerhouse program has a couple of seniors locking down that phase.
Maser, who will take her talents to Drake next fall, has long been one of Nebraska’s most productive setters. That isn’t just limited to assists, either. She commands the net with her physicality and will never be afraid to attack on the second contact. It also helps that Maser is backed up by Hedman, a rock-solid libero with a wealth of high-level experience. This pair clearly has plans to rediscover some championship magic.
These aren’t the only two explosive hitters in Platteview’s lineup, but this senior pair is stepping up again and again.
Hans showed her readiness to be a senior leader through her work with Premier Nebraska on the club side. The veteran pin hitter is hitting over 0.300 to start her swan song season with the Trojans. Better yet, Hans has a brilliant frontcourt companion in Roseland, a middle blocker who is also exceeding 0.300 so far this season. This collective efficiency has lifted Platteview to an 11-5 start with a postseason bid in play.
