Continue ReadingThe players in the class of 2027 in Washington recently finished their first year of high school play and are just starting the 2027 club season. Prep Dig Washington has identified 60 players for the initial rankings and another 15 have been added to the Watch List. An initial ranking for any freshman class will change tremendously over four seasons, change is inevitable when projecting players who are still growing physically and in skill level. A player behind talented upperclassmen during school ball may emerge when club season starts, and many athletes take time to maximize their strengths on the court. Ranking a class early also provides the opportunity to track a full class from start to finish and see the growth of these prospects over a longer time.
Finding and covering prospects at all levels is our goal, however, when it comes to rankings we start with players competing at the highest level possible. As an example, the top prospects for Washington in the class of 2026 will compete with their club teams at the Open division, and top-ten players Laura Eichert Laura Eichert 6'0" | OH Lake Stevens | 2026 State WA , Selana Morales Selana Morales 6'1" | OH Curtis | 2026 State WA , Kaitlyn Nguyen Kaitlyn Nguyen 5'4" | DS/L Bellevue | 2026 State WA , Gabriella Thompson Gabriella Thompson 6'0" | OH Camas | 2026 State WA , and Samantha Humphrey Samantha Humphrey 5'10" | S North Thurston | 2026 State WA compare favorably at their positions with players in any Open competition.

Here are the top players at each position for 2027!
Foote is our initial top ranked MB, a 6’2 force at the net from Anacortes High School. Like many young, tall middles she is currently further along as a blocker than an attacker, she moves well side to side along the net and utilizes solid eye work to track the setter and attackers. The arm swing and athleticism are present for Foote offensively, and as her confidence and footwork develops she will inevitably begin to impose her presence on opposing defenders.

Frederick is a full 6’2 and has a solid arm swing from the either pin, the Emerald Ridge prospect is the top ranked right side in the first 2027 Prep Dig rankings. Her game is already showing improvement during the early club season for PSVBA 15 Legacy, Frederick is attacking the edge of the block and hammering balls down the line for kills. When she has an opportunity to swing from the pin her footwork is solid and she keeps the ball in front, allowing her to power through late blocks to score. As a blocker she eats up attackers on tight sets and generates tips and free balls with her presence at the net.

Bigby grabs the top spot in the very first rankings of the 2027 class on the strength of her overall games as a long, explosive six-rotation outside. The 5’11 freshman from Kamiak High School is playing her 2024 club season with WVBA 15 Adidas, and the squad is off to a strong start with an 8-0 record and 16U tournament title at the MLK Washington Kickoff over the holiday weekend.

The libero position is stacked at the top for the class of 2027. Kela Williams Kela Williams 5’6″ | DS/L Mt. Spokane | 2027 State WA from Mt. Spokane is the top ranked defender in the initial rankings, coming in solidly at the #7 player overall. Williams was a blur for the Wildcats, covering her hitters, stabbing one handed digs out of nowhere and setting accurately to either pin. Her strong hands and frame set her apart from some other terrific liberos, Williams can throw herself around with abandon and handles the big swings cleanly. An excellent beach player, she will be playing for RVC 16 this club season.
