Prep Dig Texas followed the first day of the event, catching matches in two different locations and watching 16 different high school teams on the court as they finalized their preparations for the upcoming season. We'll take the week to feature some of the players who stood out, starting with the setters:

Cinco Ranch's floor general seems ready to guide her team to another deep run in the playoffs this season. One of the most talented setters in the country in her age group, O'Brien continues to make her teammates better and was excellent at connecting with her new group of hitters and getting the best out of them with her intelligent distribution and impressive precision. A tall and athletic setter, she also contributes with her blocking and is a tremendous asset on the backcourt with her ability to serve and play defense at a very high level. The centerpiece in Cinco Ranch's playing system, O'Brien looked more aggressive with her setter dumps and could make more of an impact in the team's scoring efforts this system.

Thiebaud continues to get better and looks ready to play her best volleyball yet in her junior season. College Station plays at her pace and the setter did a great job of moving players around and getting creative in order to get her hitters in the best possible situation to score. Thiebaud is also the team's big-time player as she steps up for them in key moments of matches. This season, the setter will take on hitting duties in some rotations too to strengthen the team's offense.

A state champion last season with Grand Oaks having a major role off the bench, Sampson will likely star for the team in 2024 and showed some interesting signs she's ready for the task of leading the Grizzlies on the court. As her technical skills continue to develop, the setter looks more mature on the court, making better decisions under pressure and keeping her performance steady throughout matches. Besides orchestrating the team's offense, she also contributes on the backcourt, serving efficiently and playing solid defense.

Katy's creative playmaker did a great job when running the team's offense on Thursday, keeping all her hitters involved and in a rhythm. Adams is not one to overload her team's main hitters during matches, but knows who to give the ball to when sets are on the line. The setter is very precise with her locations and remains accurate even when setting against the flow of play, but proved also to be very important in out-of-system plays, quickly getting to the ball and getting her hitter in a good position to score. She also got plenty of touches on defense and always looked very calm on the court.

Splitting playing time with [player_tooltip player_id='254134' first='Carly' last='Thomas'] at Kingwood, Sawyer was very solid with Kingwood. Her high contact point when setting gives her a lot of possibilities and she explored them well to make life easier for her hitter, accelerating the game when possible and getting them in a good place at the net. Her mobility was also great when she had to track passes and make hustle plays. At 6'1", Sawyer also did a good job at the net, having some success with her blocking and forcing opposing hitters to try to go around her.
