Below are additional frosh who are making contributions to their varsity teams. It is not an easy task to accomplish. If you play club ball the older teams no matter their skill level normally beat the younger teams because they are physically stronger and cognitively quicker when playing the game of volleyball. It takes a special player to be able to compete against players a couple years older than them when you are talking about teenagers who are still developing physically and mentally.

Last year Holy Cross went undefeated and finished number one in the rankings according to the Washington Post. This year they appear to be reloading. Ana has only recently been contributing to the action. She ranks third on the team in kills per set and fourth in kills playing in 11 of the team's 32 sets. In those sets she appears to play all six rotations.

Emme has played for the Tartans since day one. For club ball she played for Maryland Juniors. Suiting up for the Tartans she lists as a pin. She currently leads the team in kills with an impressive .320 hitting percentage. She also ranks third in aces.

Her back row play appears to be limited. She ranks fourth on the team in digs and fourth in serve receptions.

For the most part the Tartan pin hitters consist of two frosh and one sophomore, [player_tooltip player_id='536721' first='Ana' last='Woods'] and [player_tooltip player_id='438091' first='Catherine' last='McIntyre']. The team started the season 3-4 but now find themselves on a four game winning streak.

Emme also participated in the Prep Dig frosh showcase but appears to have been overlooked as a top performer. She ranks as a top performer now. Currently, she ranks at number 32 in our class of 2028, but that will have to rise as well based on her performance to date.

[player_tooltip player_id='536719' first='Katherine' last='Mitchell'] OH (Richard Montgomery) - Katherine and [player_tooltip player_id='536721' first='Ana' last='Woods'] were teammates on Metro. Ana hit right side while Katherine hit left side. Last year Richard Montgomery won the Class 4 Maryland state championships. Normally, it would be difficult for a player to find a starting role on a state championship team. Katherine has found a role. She plays with her sister [player_tooltip player_id='412056' first='Elizabeth' last='Mitchell'] opposite her on the left side. She sits fourth on the team in kills and joins her sister in a serve receive role. Katherine ranks at number three in our class of 2028. An exciting talent to watch.

[player_tooltip player_id='545719' first='Julia' last='Heinzelmann'] OH/M (Georgetown Day) - Georgetown Day won the DC state championship for the second year in a row. They have also received a ranking by SI as one of the top 20 teams in the country. Despite that, Julia has found a role on this team switching off between the middle and the pins. She lists at 5'11'. That versatility gives her some playing time, enough so that she ranks third on the team in kills per set with a hitting percentage of .524. While her playing time appears limited when she gets on the floor she contributes. Last club season Julia played for Virginia Juniors. She debuted on the wish list in our rankings because I have yet to see her play. Finding a place for in the next rankings will be easy.

Riley will contribute her back row skills to this year's team taking over the libero role. She ranks first on the team in digs and is one of the primary passers in serve receive.

Game Recaps

Visited Riverside to watch a match between number one Riverside and number 11 Millbrook. Both teams entered the match undefeated. Millbrook had the lead for most of the first set. An ace by Millbrook gave them a 22-20 lead. A [player_tooltip player_id='301696' first='Nadiya' last='Johnson'] kill and a [player_tooltip player_id='225187' first='Simone' last='Schaefer'] block leveled the score at 22. Both teams missed their serves and the game went back and forth with [player_tooltip player_id='243771' first='Berkeley' last='Konrady'] crushing two kills and [player_tooltip player_id='435748' first='Aaliyah' last='Green'] one to keep the Millbrook lead at one. The Rams responded with kills by Johnson and Schaefer with a big block by [player_tooltip player_id='181309' first='Brianna' last='Holladay'] to tie it at 26-26. A hitting error gave Riverside their first lead and finally an overset resulted in a [player_tooltip player_id='333651' first='Sydney' last='Ray'] redirect block for the game winner, giving the Rams a 28-26 first set victory.

That was the high light for Millbrook. Riverside dominated the next two sets 25-13 and 25-19 for the sweep. A balanced attack of [player_tooltip player_id='464556' first='Kennedy' last='Peyton'], [player_tooltip player_id='225187' first='Simone' last='Schaefer'], [player_tooltip player_id='181309' first='Brianna' last='Holladay'], [player_tooltip player_id='333652' first='Gabriella' last='Vizek'] and [player_tooltip player_id='301696' first='Nadiya' last='Johnson'] gives setter [player_tooltip player_id='333651' first='Sydney' last='Ray'] lots of options to terrorize the defense. Really impressed with the defense and passing of sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='464556' first='Kennedy' last='Peyton']. Riverside will be a difficult team to beat.
