Finally, we wrap up with the pin hitters.

We've spent the past week addressing various storylines and positions from our latest Nebraska 2027 rankings update. Prior features have examined middle blockers, setters, and defensive specialists who have burst into the Top 80. You probably aren't surprised to see some pin hitters earn this distinction, too.

So, here are a few of our picks for stock-rising 2027 pin hitters to watch as we inch closer to the new year.

Bornschlegl's meteoric rise was the catalyst Norris needed to end its Class B championship drought. Her role in the Titan offense expanded enormously in 2024, yielding 2.7 kills per set on a 0.285 clip. This multi-pin star recorded double-digit kills in each of her last five matches of the season, including a season-high 15 terminations in the title win over Omaha Skutt Catholic. We had seen Bornschlegl make magic on big stages with [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''], and now she's done it with Norris.

Sanders, like Bornschlegl, was already part of our original Top 25 in the Class of 2027 rankings. Her exceptional club campaign with Premier Nebraska 15 Black put this left-side hitter on our radar right away. However, Sanders made further strides with Papio South and helped the Titans add another trophy to the case. She put down 2.5 kills per set this year and could swing at whatever ball she was given. Sanders' next step is to become a six-rotation force akin to so many past Papio South standouts.

Snyder was close to making our first 2027 rankings, but now her high standing is set in stone. She averaged 2.6 kills per set as a freshman but upped that mark by a whole kill in 2024. The Omaha Concordia sophomore also put up a 0.238 clip while taking a ton of attacking volume on the left side. This exceptional athlete will be in the running for multiple career records at Omaha Concordia, and we're eager to see if that translates to postseason breakthroughs.

We've had a lot of game-changing sophomores to discuss since Lincoln North Star's upset bid into the Class A tournament. Volkmer was perhaps the best of the bunch with 3.5 kills per set to lead this year's Navigators. Her steady hand on the left side guided Lincoln North Star through some dramatic matches, particularly in the district final at Grand Island. Volkmer is a seasoned club standout who will take her talents to [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'], and we're expecting a perfect fit for the 2025 season.

Cochran's 2024 numbers are impossible to ignore. She amassed nearly 500 total kills this fall to guide Gering to a 24-12 season. The Bulldogs found clever ways to get Cochran the ball on multiple routes along the net. This gave opposing blockers a lot to think about, and Cochran was often able to work right past the hands in front of her. This is one of Nebraska's most exciting small-town prospects from the 2027 class.

Thiele's ascent may just be getting started. She was among Nebraska's highest-scoring sophomores this fall with 4.1 kills per set for Bishop Neumann. Her quick right arm yielded terminations in various ways, whether straight-down swings or tool shots off the block. Thiele's ball-control skills have also progressed, giving the Cavaliers a steady passing asset in any rotation. The 1,000-career-kill milestone is quickly approaching.

It's only fitting that we address another outside hitter from that aforementioned Premier Nebraska 15 Black juggernaut. Capece's ball control has stood out since we first saw her on the club trail, but she's now adding a lethal frontcourt presence to the mix. She racked up 2.4 kills per set for Omaha Marian to go along with 3.4 digs per set in the back row. More experience with Premier Nebraska's top 16s squad could warrant further rises in the rankings.

Wallace High School has recently climbed the small-town ladder behind some impressive frontcourt attackers. Finley established herself as one of those scoring threats this fall and registered 3.1 kills per set to finish first on the Wallace ledger. This all-around outside hitter also leads the Wildcats in digs, demonstrating Finley's willingness to affect any phase of the game. Wallace is on the rise after a 2023 state tournament appearance and could lean on Finley to make a postseason return.
