Club season begins this weekend with the Mideast Power League, a rotating series of tournaments that focus on the top JVA clubs in Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. This will be my first JVA tournament in some time, while also being the first MEPL I'll be attending, ever. With the pools of six at Munciana this weekend, I'll have plenty of solid ball to watch to kick off the '25 club season. Here are ten available players on three Indiana-based clubs that have their sights set on playing at the next level.

Munciana 18 Samurai

Arguably the top club team in the state at any age group, there are many kids to take a peek at that are available on this roster. Of course, [player_tooltip player_id='443848' first='Carsyn' last='Comer'] immediately comes to mind, as she's the biggest (literally) and brightest (figuratively) among these Samurai. Since she's a sophomore, we'll change our focus to a couple of seniors that dot this roster that are still available. [player_tooltip player_id='282018' first='Cienna' last='Lapsley'] is a springy M2 that can also play right side in a pinch. Her two-footed approach is explosive and her transition footwork always has her ready to hit. She also covers a ton of ground because of her long limbs, while her blocking technique is refined better than some in this age group. [player_tooltip player_id='569819' first='Aubree' last='Valcourt'] can play either the M1 or the M2, as she can terminate from just about everywhere along the net off of both two feet or one, depending on your needs this coming fall. Junior DS [player_tooltip player_id='498444' first='Lindsay' last='Snyder'] is an intriguing middle-back option, and can be either a three-rotation DS or a libero at the next level, while being more than capable of attacking as a ball-control-first outside for a small college.

Academy 18-1O Rage

The top 18s team at Academy has a trio of seniors that immediately stood out as surprisingly available for next fall. [player_tooltip player_id='172317' first='Ryleigh' last='Hamilton'], a hard-working and physical middle, has had her fair share of post-season accolades, but hasn't received the kind of collegiate attention because of where she plays her high school ball. I like her length and athleticism, and although she's presently projected as an M2, her work ethic could have her in the M1 position in a matter of months. I like [player_tooltip player_id='586744' first='Nile' last='Johnson'] on this roster as well. A Lawrence North kid during the fall, Miss Johnson is another athletic option in the middle that uses her long arms to her advantage on both offense and defense. One option to look at as a ball-control, six-rotation outside is senior Mackenzie Land. She's a recent club transfer from Rev that holds her own on defense and serve receive while terminating from both pins consistently on offense. Her pass-to-attack footwork is perfected, and should be a nice plug and play option for an NAIA/D2/D3 school looking for just that.

Boiler Juniors 17-1O Gold

Although there are no seniors available on this roster, for obvious reasons, there are three OUTSTANDING athletes recruiters need to keep an eye on as this club season moves forward. [player_tooltip player_id='260995' first='Caroline' last='Ward'] is a high-flying pin attacker that is already past ten feet on her attack touch while pounding balls with a different sound that others in both her graduating class and her position. I would anticipate she'll be receiving a call or two on June 15 from multiple schools that can use a terminal pin that jumps out of the gym. A pair of juniors also stand out on this roster as "available" in [player_tooltip player_id='346405' first='Maezi' last='Snyder'] and [player_tooltip player_id='210188' first='Raegan' last='Miles']. Maezi is a big and broad-shouldered M2 that consistently uses her high volleyball acuity to terminate plays on both offense and defense. Taking up space on the block is easy for someone her size, and you can't teach 6'3". Her high arm swing makes up for her not quite getting to ten feet on her attack touch, and her brains on not-quite-perfect sets allows minor errors to be turned into points. Raegan, on the other hand, is a six-rotation outside with a high arm swing and a whip for a shoulder. Her pass-to-attack footwork is well established, making the process of transitioning from defense to offense look easy (it isn't, by the way). I would like to see a few more higher line shots from Miss Miles, because she's already perfected high tool swings, seam shots and sharp angle attacks.
