Setters are often referred to as the "quarterback" on the court. In some respects, that's a fair comparison, but the job may match up better with a catcher on the baseball or softball field. Touching the ball (theoretically) on every play, getting on the run and on the floor to dig out a shanked pass, and being expected to make an accurate set that a hitter then puts away for the crowd-pleasing kill. Then turn around and play great defense before the sequence starts again. Catchers and setters may not get the accolades of the home run hitter or rocket-armed outside, but they deserve it!

The Lynden prospect gave a terrific effort on the court all tournament. She was all out hustle chasing down the second ball and would sprawl out to pop up a dig or deflection. Stephan looked terrific running a 5-1 at The Pacific Northwest Qualifier. She has the height to be effective as a blocker, and she made life easy on her attackers, feeding them a hittable set on the pins and in the middle.

Salmon has quick feet and puts herself in a good position to deliver her sets. The 2028 Ignite prospect puts the ball up high to give her attackers a good hitting window, and Salmon has an outstanding feel for dropping in a dump or push to score from her setter position. At 5'6" and athletic, she can make plays at the net and has a strong arm when she serves or takes a swing.

Congdon played strong out of a 6-2 set for Sudden Impact over the weekend. The Lake Stevens lefty has a blistering serve that she can also drop short, and she does an excellent job of being in the correct position defensively. Congdon mixed up her sets in a sequence against RVC 15, setting the middle and right sides before finding the outside attacker on an accurate fast-tempo set for the kill that ended the rally.

PJVBC 15 National had an outstanding tournament in Spokane, finishing third overall in the Liberty Division to capture a bid. Togiola made plays all over the court throughout the weekend, and her ability to get to the second ball and put the set in a good place with her hands or platform was crucial to the team's success. In the third-place match against SynergyForce, Togiala was operating at a high level. She played out of a 5-1 and refused to be tipped on, while controlling the match offensively. PJVBC 15 secured the match 25-21 and 26-24 in a hard-fought victory.

Ervin showed off her impressive athleticism and sweet hands at the PSR Power League on Sunday. The 2028 prospect played three rotations as a setter out of the back row and three as the right-side attacker versus Puyallup Juniors 16 National. Ervin can be on the run, make an ideally located jump set to the outside, and deliver a terrific dig defensively in the same rally. NPJ Seattle 16 National has Far Western up next on the schedule in Reno, where they will be chasing a bid in the American Division.
