More Surging 2026s in Nebraska Rankings Update (Pt. 2)

This was preceded by separate features on setters and pin hitters who also ascended the hierarchy. The Lincoln Pius X standout has seized a leadership role with VCN 17 Black and contributes to the team's exceptional ball control. Wemhoff is unflappable in serve receive, allowing her teammates to take assertive, in-system swings in the frontcourt. This smooth operation has put 17 Black on the cusp of bid triumphs at multiple national qualifiers this spring. She seamlessly transitioned to the 17 Black lineup and exhibited her positional versatility in 2025. We've known about Gustafson's terminal ability on the right pin, but she has become a full-time left-side hitter in the VCNebraska gym. This has tremendously escalated Gustafson's production and showcases her willingness to lock down the back row. Talbott joined the 17 Elite crew this season and has influenced the team's lineup in various ways. The Norris junior has established herself as a frontcourt weapon, but Talbott can make a splash even when she's not at the net. Talbott is also a stout middle-back defender and can handle the gauntlet of tough serves dished out in the 17 Open division. Freeland has excelled on some of club volleyball's biggest stages, from Triple Crown NIT to the Windy City Qualifier. This Gretna East junior has made major strides as an opposite while also boasting the flexibility to play in the middle. Freeland wields her explosive approach to produce cross-court heat and is an excellent wing blocker. Vavra brings all the physicality and power you'd expect from 17 Black's middle blocker position. Secord has stepped up in that regard and has churned out several clutch moments in the middle. She is an agile blocker who reads setters well and gets hip-to-hip with her wing defender. She is known for dishing out a quick offense with great precision, but Scheef has also evolved as a front-row opposite for 17 Select. She has the potential to become a triple-double machine with her wealth of kills, assists, and eye-popping defensive plays in the right-back area.
