One of the challenges of the Stock Up Showcase is the 70 plus players who attended the event. That provides a short window of time to identify a top performer within this two hour time frame. To provide me with more opportunity to watch the newer players I eliminate previous top performers as well as five players registered who I know will be top performers after seeing them play during the club season. This broke it down to a more manageable 55 players to watch.

Fifteen players were selected as top performers. For some, it took a third appearance at a showcase to get selected, but that shows determination. It makes me like them even more. . In addition, a number of players not identified as top performers deserve a second look. That means being placed on the watch list. Hopefully, I will get to watch them during the high school season. Below are eight top performers. Another seven will be identified in the next post.

A special thanks to event coordinator Walter Spurlock who kept the drills moving and the players rotating.

Currently her ability to block exceeds her offensive performance. That should equalize once her transition and arm swing improve. When everything clicks she strikes the ball with good velocity. Whether her future exists as a middle or right side will depend on how quickly she can learn her reads in the middle and how quickly she can move from pin to pin. As a class of 2027 she still has time to improve.

This was her third appearance at a Prep Dig Showcase. It wasn't until the six person play that I noticed Charlotte. She shares the libero roll with [player_tooltip player_id='748518' first='Harper' last='Walker'] for the Maryland Juniors 14 U team. They will play in Open at the USAV Junior Nationals in Dallas.

An injury prevented her from truly showing off her skills. Now that her health has returned her quickness on the court stands out. With Charlotte and [player_tooltip player_id='748518' first='Harper' last='Walker'] sharing the libero time for Maryland Juniors it gives them lots of options.

A very steady player. Charlotte joked with me that she wore her pink shoes to try to stand out a little more. No need for the pink shoes to spot her play. She anticipates well with quick movements to find her base after she makes a play.

Sadie is another player easy to find on the volleyball court. She wears one black and one white tennis shoe. When you watch her play it becomes clear she is having fun on the court. She also shows a lot of spirit. At the East Coast championships in Pittsburgh, I witnessed her pound the floor in anger when she failed to make a dig.

She will play in Florida for American at AAUs in the Select Division. For Forest Park she got minimal playing time last year, but their libero has graduated. Time for a new generation to step in. Finishing second to Colgan every year has got to be frustrating.

Eva showed consistency in location with her sets. She also worked well with the middles when running the quick tempo sets.
Rhea impressed me with a line drive bullet serve that had some vicious downward trajectory when it traveled over the net. The serve easily turned into an ace. I coached Rhea at the 14 level. Clearly, I do not remember that serve. It motivated me to watch her more. I came away impressed. Whether she back set or went to the outside her setting showed consistent location. The height also did not seem to vary. She definitely passed the eye test.

One thing I know from coaching her early in her career is her intelligence. She always thought of ways to score points. Early in her career that resulted in a plethora of dumps. I cautioned her that this was not the role of the setter. It felt good to watch her set and let the hitter do the work.

Her 5'5" frame probably limits her to a back row slot. Last year she made the varsity for South Lakes setting as a sophomore. It would surprise me if she did not have at least one setting slot in a 6/2.

Sydney lists at 6'2". She can play either middle or right side. Her ability to run the quick tempo sets makes her ideal for the middle. Regardless of her position, her ability to get her hands high above the net for the block make her ideal for neutralizing the left side.

Olivia first came to us at the frosh showcase. She fell short of winning the top performer award. My next exposure to her was watching her play in a high school match against us. She started left side for the Yorktown varsity, proving difficult to stop. Her listed height of 5'10" is a good size for a pin hitter. While she hits the ball well now she needs to work on enhancing her 9'3" approach jump. to compete at the higher levels.

She put some balls away at the Stock up Showcase that impressed. That easily put her in the top performer category. She currently ranks number 59 in our class of 2028.
Leah impressed with a couple hard driven balls to the floor. While trying to keep track of over 1,000 girls (whether ranked or on the watch list) sometimes a fog will come across a name. Even after coming home and looking at her profile it was still not clear where I first saw her play to rank her at number 68. She certainly is deserving of her ranking.

Her sister [player_tooltip player_id='627365' first='Alexa' last='Eggleton'] also impressed me with her hands as a setter. Since she also belongs to the class of 2028 I'll assume the two are twins. Alexa is a couple inches smaller than Leah, but they both started for Forest Park as frosh. Alexa finished third in digs and assists. With more time I may have convinced myself to give both of them top performer awards.
