After almost eight months of intense action around the country, the club volleyball season came to an end two weeks ago, with the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship taking place in Dallas.

The prospects from Texas won't, however, have a lot of time to breathe and relax after defending their club teams, as, in just over a month, on August 11, the high school volleyball season is about to begin in the Lone Star State, with the first matches of the University Interscholastic Legue (UIL) being held.

As in the past years, Prep Dig Texas will continue to follow the action closely in the Houston area, attending multiple matches every week and providing comprehensive coverage, with analysis, photos and social media posts from each of them.

It should be another exciting season, filled with highly-contested matches and strong individual performances, and, before August 11 arrives, we'll preview each district in the Houston area so you know exactly what to expect from each team competing:

District 17

Cy-Fair

Cy-Fair had the third-best campaign in the district last season, getting 10 wins and four losses. The Lady Bobcats appeared in the Division 1 Playoffs and had success in the first round after losing to Cinco Ranch in the area round and ending their campaign with 22 wins and 22 losses. Cy-Fair had a senior-heavy squad last year and will look much different this season after outside hitters Karina Smith and Cora Miller, middles [player_tooltip player_id='558308' first='Sofia' last='Williams'] and Ella Hawley, libero Anna Solis and setters Ashley Johnson and Kaylee Williams graduated. Senior outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='269780' first='Arianna' last='Muoneke'] should lead the team, which will have junior middle [player_tooltip player_id='727195' first='Amaiya' last='Lyles'], senior outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='269817' first='London' last='Hart'] and junior libero [player_tooltip player_id='534335' first='Pearson' last='Noone'] as key players.

Cypress Creek

Cypress Creek ended up in sixth place in the district last year with four wins and ten losses and missed the playoffs. The Lady Cougars ended their campaign with 18 victories and 25 defeats. Their graduating class had middle Jaeda Rawls-Fletcher, outside hitter Alex Olson and libero Sydney Martin as standouts. The team's top returning players in 2025 will be junior setter/right side [player_tooltip player_id='443018' first='Devyn' last='Wilkes'], senior outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='801072' first='Shelby' last='Brown'], sophomore middle [player_tooltip player_id='826145' first='Luna' last='Forh'] and senior setter Marlee Brown.

Cypress Falls

Cypress Falls ranked seventh in district play in 2024, getting three wins and 11 losses against their regional rivals. The Lady Eagles completed their season campaign with a 10-34 win record. Their most recent graduating class included some of the team's standouts, such as middle Peyton Blackwell-Spangler, right side Adyson Shiery, libero Haley Buchanan and setter Elyse De Silva. In 2025, junior outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='603780' first='Tyler' last='Sharrett'], senior outside hitters [player_tooltip player_id='827246' first='Kylee' last='Shiery'] and [player_tooltip player_id='492666' first='Jaelyn' last='Mitchell'], senior middle [player_tooltip player_id='818069' first='Aramys' last='Whitfield'] and sophomore setter Gabi Mendez will form the core of the team.

Cypress Ridge

Cypress Ridge finished fifth with five wins and nine losses and were the first team looking to the playoffs from the outside. The Lady Rams completed their season schedule with ten wins and 24 losses. Middle Wendy Shada, setter Dercy Mercado and libero Jolie Jones were the most important players among the ones who left the team after graduation. In 2025, it will be up to seniors [player_tooltip player_id='805328' first='Jessica' last='Tyson'] (outside hitter), [player_tooltip player_id='819073' first='Jasmine' last='Gambol'] (middle), Jadyn Lastap (middle) and Grace Massingill (setter) to lead the team on the court.

Jersey Village

Jersey Village had the fourth-best campaign in the district in 2024, registering eight wins and six losses. The Lady Falcons competed in the Division 1 Playoffs, but couldn't make it past the bi-district round, going down to Bellaire, and completed their season with 21 wins and 23 losses. The team will miss its starting setter, Bella Spjut, and an outside hitter, Elianna Freeman, due to graduation, but outside of that, there shouldn't be a lot of change in the team. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='558893' first='Sofia' last='Novak'] (right side), Claire Bezanilla (outside hitter) and Bradi Johnson (middle) and sophomore middle Vivi Diedrich should provide firepower at the net while senior [player_tooltip player_id='443113' first='Aubrey' last='Peters'] takes over as the starting setter.

Memorial

Memorial took second in the district last year, getting 12 wins and just two losses. The Lady Mustangs survived the first round of the Division 2 Playoffs, but were knocked out by Jordan in the bi-district round and saw their season end with 31 wins and 15 losses. It should be a big rebuild season for Memorial as the team lost right side Georgia Sperandio, middles Reese Haley and Hadley Hobbs, outside hitters Gianna Hirvonen and Ashley Bullard and setter Avery Pham for graduation. Returning starters Ella Ross (junior setter) and [player_tooltip player_id='269813' first='Kassia' last='Tan'] (junior libero) will lead a group that has sophomore outside hitter Mary Schwieder as one of the standouts.

Northbrook

Northbrook sat at the bottom of the district standings last year, dropping all 14 matches and winning no sets. Considering the entire season, the Lady Raiders managed to win five of their 41 matches, producing a 5-36 win record. Libero Andrea Valencia, setter Julvina Araniba and middle Emily Solis led the team's graduating class. In 2025, senior outside hitter Chasiti Jenkins and juniors Valery Perez (outside hitter), Yaretzi Ramirez (setter/right side) and [player_tooltip player_id='798866' first='Jalene' last='Carcamo'] (libero) will be important pieces in the team's playing system.

Stratford

Stratford were flawless in district play last season, winning the title with an undefeated campaign of 14 victories and just one set dropped. The Lady Spartans made an incredible run in the Division 2 Playoffs, advancing all the way to the State Championship game, where they were downed by Byron Nelson to end their campaign with 42 wins and just three losses. The team's graduating class featured right side Avery Kent and liberos Rachel Ashby and Logan Skyes. Stratford should return in 2025 with most of their team intact, having senior [player_tooltip player_id='323202' first='Audrey' last='Cook'] at setter, senior [player_tooltip player_id='269826' first='Sarah' last='Hickman'] on the right, senior [player_tooltip player_id='254038' first='Gwenyth' last='Koss'] and sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='787951' first='Sydney' last='Hatcher'] on the pins and juniors [player_tooltip player_id='819915' first='Milena' last='Miladinovic'] and [player_tooltip player_id='821034' first='Tess' last='Stephenson'] in the middle.
