This is the third and final installment of the Preseason All-Deck Team reports.

The sophomore season is an important one for me as a scout.

It is a chance for athletes who had big freshman seasons to move forward or backward with their play.

There will be athletes who did not play varsity ball as freshmen who will get more opportunities to play at the varsity level.

There are also athletes I just want to see how they have physically or technically evolved as players for rankings purposes.

Here is a group of athletes heading into their sophomore seasons that I hope to get to watch this fall.

My schedule is flexible, but I don't intend to travel as much this fall. These are All-Star caliber ranked athletes who I could have a chance of seeing play this upcoming season.

Coaches and athletes are encouraged to email schedules for the fall (at deckscoutks@gmail.com) if they are interested in me scouting a match.

I saw Miller at a club practice before the USA National club tournaments. She is a stat monster for the Panthers. Miller is ranked No. 4 overall and is a multi-sport athlete also ranked by Prep Girls Hoops Kansas. I don't think I have seen Royal Valley play a regular season game and it's a program that I would like to become more familiar with.

Two athletes in this group stand out and are high on my list of athletes to watch. They both happen to be setters and are the top two-ranked setters in the Kansas Class of 2028. Hayden's Walter is ranked No. 6 overall and is the top-ranked setter. She had an outstanding freshman season for Hayden and helped guide the Wildcats to the State Tournament. She is a multi-sport athlete who competes in basketball and softball. Not to put any pressure on her, but I want to see up close how her skills and the No. 2-ranked setter's compare. I also keep waiting for her to show some wear and tear after competing in three sports over six seasons, but she always seems healthy, and I have never seen her give a "ho-hum" effort. She is one of my favorite athletes to watch, and it's easy to catch a Hayden match.

Bain is the second-ranked setter in the Kansas Class of 2028. Mill Valley's starting setter [player_tooltip player_id='154038' first='Ella' last='Florez'] is ranked No. 1 overall in the Kansas Class of 2026 and has verbally committed to Iowa State University. So the question is: will Baine make the varsity as a second setter or backup setter, or will she be used in a different role? It doesn't matter other than the official varsity stats that she collects, because she is a talented setter and another fun athlete to watch. She plays in a program with a winning pedigree and gets to share reps with one of the best setters in the state, which will help her overall intangible skills and in her recruitment.

Dean is ranked No. 10 in the Class of 2028 and probably will always find a way to get on an All-Deck team. She is another multi-sport prospect, but in my opinion, volleyball is where her future lies. She eats and breathes volleyball. She has been to multiple camps and clinics this summer and will be at the Washburn Elite Camp this Friday. She can hit. play defense, and could set if her older sister wasn't already the starter for the Tigers. She promotes herself well on social media and has a super bright future in front of her.

So the next four prospects could be the challenging ones to get to see play this fall, but are All-Star worthy athletes, and are on my short list of players to try to see play. Ellinwood's Maxwell is ranked No. 16 overall in the Kansas Class of 2028. I saw Ellinwood play last year, but she was recovering from an injury at the time. She is a versatile athlete who has been well-coached. The Eagles will be looking to rebound from what felt like a disappointing season a year ago.

Great Bend is a program that I enjoy keeping track of. Minton is a player who caught my eye last year during a Panthers practice that I scouted. She has some bounce in her step and can play multiple positions based on roster needs. She is ranked No. 17 overall in the Kansas Class of 2028. I received a copy of the Panthers' schedule this morning, and I will give it a closer look moving forward. The Panthers do have a scheduled match at Junction City, which will be on my short list of tentative matches to possibly scout.

Here is another Mill Valley player whom I saw play for Spring Hill last season. She is a talented libero who is ranked No. 20 overall. and is the No. 1 ranked DS/L in the Class of 2028. Lynnes is a talented defensive player who is coming off a great freshman season. Since she is changing schools, it will be interesting to see where she fits in on the Jaguar roster. She and Baine could make an exciting one-two-punch to watch in the future.

Woodberry is ranked No. 32 overall. I don't travel to Kansas City much during the regular season, but Olathe West is a team that I have caught more than once in the past two seasons. Woodberry is another athlete who follows me on X, and she promotes herself well on social media. She posted a ton of club highlights this past season, and that inspires me to want to fit an Owl match into my busy schedule.
