Lots of Middles Making Their Debut in 2027 Rankings

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The new additions to the 2027 rankings were dominated by middle blockers with five of the top six newcomers playing the middle position. We increased the number of players ranked for the class of 2027 from 150 to 200. Those ranked between 150-200 impressed during the short window in which they were watched. Now that they have their foot in the door it is time for them to pick up their game. The top 200 represents only about 10 percent of the girls who play club volleyball in the DMV area.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This also presents a critical time for many of these girls to make a decision about continuing their volleyball career. Most of them will now be juniors so if they cannot make their varsity team they usually do not continue with club volleyball. Some high schools carry juniors on their junior varsity, but for the most part it is restricted to sophomores or frosh. Below we provide detail on the top eight who debuted in the 2027 rankings. It is not common for a new prospect to make her debut into the top fifty. Her height certainly impresses at 6'3". It is not difficult for her to dominate at the net. Her offensive game still remains a bit raw. Her transition to hit and arm swing need improvement to enhance her offensive performance.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Last year as a sophomore for Severn Run Isabella topped her team in blocking and finished third in kills. As she gains experience her hitting errors should lesson resulting in a much improved overall game. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Isabella was named a top performer at our Prep Dig showcase. A ton of potential here. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='768547' first='Nadia' last='Jastrzemski'] MB (Home Schooled/Monument) - Nadia slides just behind Isabella at number 94. Overall, her game looks pretty polished and at 6'2" she carries height for the middle. Her younger sister Eleanor hit left side for the 17 year old Monument team and belongs to the class of 2030. Nadia ran the quick sets in the middle well and had the quickness to block from pin to pin. For her home school team, she finished first in blocks and second in kills. Her hitting percentage was an impressive .442. This home school team has some impressive players on their roster.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='772008' first='Meera' last='Patel'] MB (Winston Churchill/MVSA) - Merra fits in at number 100 in our class of 2027 rankings. At 6'1" she brings some good height for a middle. As with many taller players with longer limbs she just needs a little work on her arm swing to create more power in her hits. Her blocking is impactful. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='849619' first='Kiya' last='Boggan'] MB (Blair/Maryland Juniors) - Kiya debuts at 103 in our class of 2027 rankings. She teams with [player_tooltip player_id='753065' first='Isabella' last='Adcock'] to form a duo of twin towers at the middle for Maryland Juniors. Like Isabella, Kiya also stands 6'3". Kiya has a nice fast arm swing that can put some power on the ball when her timing is right. Her approach jump already reaches 10 feet, During her frosh season Kiya played a little basketball. Now her focus is on volleyball where she finished first on her team in blocks while settling second in kills with a hitting percentage of .338.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='849571' first='Kadley' last='Zee'] Libero/DS (Arundel/Maryland Juniors) - Kadley swings in at 113, the first non middle to debut in the 2027 rankings. She played mostly as a defensive specialist while yielding the libero role to [player_tooltip player_id='547072' first='Victoria' last='Small']. When in the game she covers the back row well, passing consistently while playing solid defense. What impresses me most about her is her shuffle movement when passing the deep serves.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='828151' first='Arielle' last='Stopak'] MB (Georgetown Day/[program_tooltip program_id='476729' first='Paramount' last='']) - Arielle debuts at number 128 in our rankings. Arielle played a year down for the Paramount 15 team that qualified for Open. At 6'1" she brings good height for the middle. She can also hit a little left side as she did for Georgetown Day in the Endless Summer tournament last year. With Georgetown Day she did not get a lot of opportunity to play but when she did she performed well. A second home schooler to make our newcomer list. Kaitlin won a top performer award at our Prep Dig showcase this year. She showed strong hands to easily push the ball outside. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Prior to the showcase she impressed as the second setter to [player_tooltip player_id='448705' first='Danika' last='Swanson'] for American. Normally, Danika sets a 5/1 but American chose to hit her right side while Kaitlin set.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>At 5'9" Kaitlin brings decent height to the setting position but I have yet to see her play front row. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='752045' first='Maya' last='Dorsam'] S/Right side (Sherwood/MVSA) - Maya debuts at number 133 in our 2027 rankings. The first time a saw her play she set a 5/1 for MVSA. The second time I saw her play she exhibited a fast arm swing playing right side, firing bullets over the net. She did not play setter. While she can do a little of both her 5'*8" height is more conducive for setting. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Other Names to Watch</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>We increased the number of players ranked in the class of 2027 from 150 to 200. Below are some players who impressed but could not be squeezed into our top 150. In essence, we need to see more of their play before we rank them higher. The fact that a player made this list is validation that you caught our eye. Keep on working to improve your game and you will rise up these rankings.
