Kadey is another unsigned senior that should not still be on the market. She’s the epitome of the speedy, ranging DS, and is a big part of why Arundel is in the mix this season. She spent a season playing 18s at Metro Travel last year, which should speak to her level of play. She should be one of the first pieces off the board in this signing season (usually the beginning of club season through February), where you often see the unsigned 18s commit. A DS that can cover line to line is a very valuable piece of the puzzle, the recent trend of playing multiple hitters all 6 positions cut into that a bit, with a lot of teams only playing the Lib as a true DS and there would be hitters in the back the rest of the time. The meta seems to be shifting a bit however as teams are realizing that someone that fully and only trains back row defense and passing is usually going to be more advanced than a player that has to split their development time between offense and defense. I’ve seen many more 2 DS lineups, use of the two Libero system, and my newer theory, the DS/Setter hyrbids starting to pop up more and more recently. That puts players like Kadey in demand.

One of the new additions for 18T, Kadey looked great in the game I got to see her play. Not afraid to take on hits from major challenges, she was getting balls in the air for her talented teammates to deliver, and contributing her consistent, speedy defense across the court. They added quite a few talented players in this back court, so there may be differences in who gets the Lib jersey from game to game, they are deep enough they could rotate at the spot, but Kadey belongs in that mix, even though she’s playing up to do it.

Kadey is an underrated DS that doesn’t get the attention she deserves. She’s one of the fastest players in the DMV, and has great range as a DS. She would be the starting Libero on a majority of teams, but has been stuck behind a couple of the best in the Region in Bailey Swinton at Arundel, and Victoria Small Victoria Small 5'3" | DS/L Maryvale Preparatory School | 2027 State VA at MDJRS. Kadey is exactly the kind of overlooked prospect we aim to locate here.
