High School News: Rams Ride Momentum After Statement Win Over KCC

Coming off a thrilling victory over a scrappy Kittson County Central squad, the Rams showed grit, depth, and an ability to finish when the pressure was at its peak. With a 15–2 overall record and an undefeated 4–0 start in conference play, Roseau isn't just winning — they're establishing themselves as a legitimate contender with state aspirations.   Against Kittson County Central, the Rams had to battle every single point. This wasn't a runaway sweep — it was a clash of momentum, adjustments, and high-level volleyball. Roseau relied on their balance, their ability to terminate balls from multiple positions, and the steady hands of their setters and back row defenders.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   <h3 class="wp-block-heading">A Breakdown of the Match</h3>   The Rams' offensive spread was one of the major storylines. Six players registered kills, but it was the trio of Cora Lundbohm (17 kills, 15 digs), [player_tooltip player_id='889935' first='Evy' last='Thingvold'] (11 kills), and Maryn Byfuglien (7 kills, 6 aces) who kept Roseau in control of the net. Lundbohm, the senior outside hitter, once again showed why she is the offensive engine of this team. With her smooth approach, ability to tool the block, and strong court awareness, she punished KCC's defense from both pins. Nearly at the 200-kill mark on the season, Lundbohm is proving she has both the power and the volleyball IQ to score in clutch moments.   Thingvold added steady production through the middle, working with quick tempo sets to keep blockers guessing. Her ability to hit sharp angles and finish on overpasses gave Roseau momentum whenever they needed a side-out. Byfuglien, meanwhile, proved to be a spark plug at the service line with six aces, putting KCC on their heels and forcing them out of system.   Setting the table was freshman standout Audrey Hayden, who continues to impress with poise beyond her years. Hayden dished out 32 assists while also digging up 15 balls defensively. With nearly 300 assists already on the season, she is quickly becoming the quarterback of Roseau's offense. Her ability to push tempo, locate hot hitters, and deliver clean second touches is a major reason this team looks so polished despite their youth.   Defensively, junior libero Aubrey Eeg was everywhere. She posted 13 digs in the win and now sits at 124 on the season, proving herself as the anchor in the back row. Her calm passing in serve receive and fearless pursuit of balls off tough swings allowed Roseau to stay in system and keep their offense flowing. Add in the steady play of [player_tooltip player_id='752589' first='Clara' last='Baumgartner'] (7 kills, 7 assists, 7 digs) and it becomes clear that this is a roster built on balance and trust.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Kittson County Central Pushes Back</h3>   Credit must also go to Kittson County Central, who didn't roll over. She tested Roseau's block all night with heavy swings to the deep corners. Setter Camryn Whitlock kept the offense flowing with 25 assists and chipped in 14 digs, while Afton Lindgren added 21 assists and 11 digs. This was a battle that required Roseau to dig deep, adapt, and win the big rallies when it mattered.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Season Outlook: A Team Built for More</h3>   What makes this Roseau team dangerous is their combination of youth and leadership. Senior leader Cora Lundbohm sets the tone with her competitive drive. As an outside hitter, she reads the block well and has the versatility to score crosscourt, down the line, or through tips and rolls when needed. Her volleyball IQ separates her — she knows when to swing big and when to place shots, making her one of the toughest outsides to defend in the state. Off the court, she's a vocal leader and mentor to the underclassmen, giving this team stability in tight matches.   Freshman setter Audrey Hayden is the definition of composure. Running a varsity offense as a ninth grader is no small task, but she thrives under pressure. Her hands are clean, her decision-making is sharp, and she already understands how to spread the floor to keep blockers off balance. Nearly at 300 assists, Hayden is on pace for a monster season and is the type of player you build a program around.   Junior libero Aubrey Eeg provides the steady floor defense every top program needs. Her ability to read hitters, anticipate angles, and make high-quality passes gives Roseau confidence that rallies won't die easily. She's already climbing toward the top of the digs leaderboard and showing that she can be a lockdown presence in the backcourt. Thingvold's presence through the middle gives the Rams balance, while Byfuglien's serving pressure and ability to score in transition add depth.
