Sweeping the Competition: Sartell Dominates Brainerd

The Sartell Sabres defeated the Brainerd Warriors in a quick three sets during their conference match-up on September 25, 2025. The Sabres have a strong offense and defense making them hard to beat. Below are the player dedicating themselves to the court.    Terhune owns the net. Between blocking, attacking, jousting, and passing, she does not make it easy for the other team to get a point. Her quick transition off the net allows her to run multiple routes. Her quick approach and high contact allow her to move the ball around and hit to the empty spots on the court. Her court awareness as a hitter shows with her sideline shots. Blocking, Terhune is quick to get to her destination and reads the hitter well. Her strong hands allow her to generate helpful touches or stop the ball completely awarding her team the point.     Schulte has a strong arm and puts pace behind the ball. Her quick approach and high snap allow her to work around the opposing defense and block. She catches her opponents still moving at the time of contact making it harder for them to make a play. Schulte uses the block to score points by hitting it high and off their fingers allowing little chance for recovery. Her approach to the ball allows her to have many locations to swing, tip, or throw to. She is always ready to cover her hitters and make the next play. Schulte is an all-around tremendous player.     Schumann's positivity, determination, and dedication on the court do not go unnoticed by her teammates or audience members. Her ability to communicate effectively with her teammates creates many offensive opportunities. Her fast feet and platform control ensure that she passes the ball to her setter. When setting up pins out of system, she gets to the ball quickly and using her legs to give the hitters a high ball to make and aggressive play. Schumann's ability to read the opposing offense and quickly move to cover a hole in the block or line up with the hitters' swings only increases her number of digs per game.     Thompson is outstanding and reading the court and moving around her hitter and changing their routes. Her communication ensures success for her team. She is a dedicated setter who will do anything to get her hands on the ball to make a strong play. During long rallies she moves around the ball to make her opponents work and move, tiring them out. Thompson is smart when dumping and reads where the defense is sitting to get it around them. As a sophomore, she is making a big impact on the court and will only continue to grow and become an even more powerful force for next season.     Gugissberg has a sharp and powerful swing on the outside, forcing her opponents to scramble. Her fast approach allows her to swing high and snap fast getting the ball over the block and down in front of the defense. Her ability to swing and hit many different areas of the court keep the defense guessing. She reads the block well and works around it. Gugissberg has strong hands as a blocker that angle the ball back into the court. She is quick to read the opposing offense and set her block in the path of the hitter. As a passer, Gugissberg has good footwork to beat the ball to its destination with time to angle her platform and put the ball on the setter's head. She is a dominant force no matter where she is on the court.    16
