About Romi
Expert Analysis
Breit Nelson | Prep Dig Scout
Chlebecek entered the Lakeville South program with high expectations, but as many underclassmen discover, they often found themselves playing in the shadow of more established upperclassmen like Paige Wagner, Rowan Carr, and Olivia Wagner at first. Last season, she started putting on a show as she rebounded to become a major six-rotation player for a Lakeville South team that has the potential to defend their 2024 state title. Her work on hitting consistency and serve reception has transformed her from a potential contributor early on to a non-negotiable starter. Her current role as a leader showcases her as an athlete who dedicated her off-season to leveling up her skillset.

Chlebecek has been a standout six-rotation outside for Lakeville South , earning a varsity starting position as early as her eighth-grade season in 2021, where she recorded 158 varsity kills. In her freshman year (2022), she continued as a varsity starter and was part of the 2022 South Suburban Conference Champions team while recording 205 kills. By her junior year in 2024, she had her most productive season yet with 393 kills and 32 blocks in order to contribute to the Cougars’ 32-2 record as well as a perfect 12-0 conference record and establishing Lakeville South as the defending Class 4A state champions going into the post season. Chlebecek has been recognized on South Suburban All-Conference teams, named the Lakeville South ‘s 2024 Female ExCEL Award Winner, and was a Cougar Athlete of the Week multiple times. While being a consistent offensive threat, Chlebecek has surpassed 100 career blocks to be a dominant defensive force as well during her senior season. She has also maintained a strong academic record with a 4.0 GPA.

is a nightmare for defenses. With 1100+ kills and counting, she has carved out her spot as Minnesota’s #2 outside hitter, and for good reason. Chlebecek unloads with a whip-fast arm that can overpower blocks or finesse shots into deep corners. She’s a six-rotation hammer who brings firepower from the front and back row, refusing to let the ball hit the floor without a fight. Her adaptability sets her apart — whether facing double blocks, off-speed junk, or tight sets, she finds a way to score. Denver is adding a pure competitor with the kind of kill-first mentality that changes matches. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas

brings poise and power to the outside pin, and she showed it all on Day 3 at USAV Nationals. Committed to the University of Denver, Romi is a dynamic attacker with a smooth approach and explosive arm swing. She plays with great timing and court vision—finding seams in the block and attacking deep corners with precision.
She excels both in-system and when adjusting to tempo, proving she can be counted on in pressure situations. Romi also contributes in serve receive and plays with a calm, confident presence that elevates her team. She’s a complete outside with the tools and mindset to thrive at the next level.

I missed getting to see Chlebecek play in person the last time I saw Lakeville South and MN Select in action. I hate it when the timing doesn’t work out BUT let me tell you, her highlight videos are showing some pretty stellar timing. I think she has really elevated her serve receive game as well.

Chlebecek is a big athletic swing that knows how to not only work around the block but she finds a way over it as well. She puts up a dominant block and setters don’t dare to dump when she is patrolling. Chlebecek plays good off-blocker defense and can run a number of different routes and tempos.

I am excited to finally see Chlebecek in action in person! I missed her last fall because she was under the weather for the Eagle Invitational and then I didn’t see her at the Prep Dig Gauntlet over Memorial Day weekend. Chlebecek is such a gamechanger for this group and I can’t wait!

Chlebecek moves smoothly on defense in the middle back and fills the split seamlessly. On the offensive side she exposes any space between blockers and can bury the ball. If the block gets closed she just goes over them and finds the deep cross corner for the kill. Some of the shots she takes make me think she’s played some beach because they are so crafty and calculated.

Chlebecek is super athletic and has some serious fast footwork. She works hard in transition and has no problem tooling the block for a kill. Chlebecek also has the line shot figured out so you might not want to leave that open for her. She is definitely well trained and aggressive on offense. She will be really fun to watch for the next 3 years.
