New Kids on the Block: Freshmen Dominating the Courts- VOL 2

This article is a continuation of my previous article on freshman in Minnesota and Wisconsin that are having big seasons on the varsity court. It's hard enough to get on the varsity roster as a freshman, but these studs broke into the starting rotation and are at the top of the stat charts. We can't wait to see how they finish out their first high school regular season of play and how they fare in the post season. Grande is an freshman outside that I had the privilege of watching playing at the 2AA Midwest Showcase. While Grande will take impressive swings and generate kills from the pins, what most caught my eye was her blocking. She has a good read on the ball and makes quick efficient movements to stop attackers in their tracks. Grande currently has 39 blocks on the season. She also has 65 kills, averaging 1.3 kills/set.     I am partial to lefty's so it is no surprise that lefty attacker, [player_tooltip player_id='758190' first='Kiley' last='Murray'] caught my eye early this season. The 5'10” lefty can swing from both pins and out of the middle.  She has a solid vertical, excellent court awareness, and can generate kills from swinging hard cross, off blockers hands, and my personal favorite, with hard shots down the line.  Murray has totaled 111 kills on the season so far, averaging 1.9 kills/set and has also put up an impressive 31 blocks as well. Murray is only getting started and we can't wait to see more.     Roseau freshman setter, Hayden has taken command on the court and done a solid job running the offense at such a young age. She has really excelled at finding connections with her hitters and finding them when off the net. She especially does a good job finding and feeding her middles. Hayden has 349 assists on the year so far, averaging 7.0 assists/set. She has also racked up 17 kills, 97 digs, and 1.9 digs/set.      Bohren is not new to the varsity court, but rather is one of the more experienced veteran players on the Concordia Academy team as she has been in the varsity rotation since 7th grade.  Bohren is at the top of the attacking stats for freshman in Minnesota, leading in not only the number of kills but hitting percentage. To date, she has 170 kills, averaging a whopping 3.5 kills/set.  She has also contributed 32 aces and 130 digs.      South St. Paul defensive specialist and libero Ulrick is only a freshman and is putting up big numbers. She currently has an impressive 56 aces on the year, averaging 1.1 ace/set. However, the quick footed, backcourt boss that plays middle back has an impressive 210 digs, averaging 4.0 digs/set and 303 receptions, averaging 5.8 receptions/set.      Running a 6-2 offense, Rocori has found success with freshman Eliet Satterstrom leading the court.  Behind the service line, Satterstrom is constant and lethal. She has a serving percentage of 94.1% with 18 aces on the year. She also has contributed 169 assists, averaging 3.3 assists/set to the offense that currently has a 10-8 record this season.
