I had to put the “6-7” in there. For anyone around middle or high school kids, you know what I mean. Here is a look at sections 5-8 in D1 for Wisconsin. Section 5 is a journey in itself with plenty of teams who can make a case for a top seed, even a top four seed is going to be a tough line up to crack. Where do these teams stand, and what can we look for in the next month!

Section 5

There are seven teams from the top 25 of the Max Preps D1 Rankings which will factor in wins, losses, and strength of schedule.

Hamilton was the top dog in this sectional last year while they defeated Arrowhead in the sectional final. These two teams are back and now Menomonee Falls has been added to this sectional where they advanced to the state tournament knocking off Slinger in the sectional final in 2024. This past weekend Fond du Lac advanced to the semifinals, defeating Menomonee Falls in the quarterfinals before being defeated by DSHA. Slinger is a dangerous team where they have wins over sectional opponents in Hamilton, Cedarburg, Hartford, and top ranked in D2 Xavier. This will be a battle to see who can get to host the regional final which will be played at top seeded host school. The sectional semifinals will be played at Manitowoc with the sectional final going to Neenah.

Section 6

Racing To The Top

Oconomowoc 22-1

Brookfield East 21-3

Waukesha West 14-6

Yikes, this is rugged and these are just the top three from the top ten on Max Preps. Ocon dropped their first match of the year this past weekend when they lost to Arrowhead, to then follow that up by defeating Arrowhead in conference play earlier this week. [player_tooltip player_id='249678' first='Marlee' last='Sivak'] continues to score points in bunches, surpassing 1,000 career kills while her setter, [player_tooltip player_id='284069' first='Lizzy' last='Kwiatkowski'] already has over 600 assists this season. Brookfield East has been on a roll. The only loss they have had in September is to DSHA. [player_tooltip player_id='809936' first='Maggie' last='Czajka'], [player_tooltip player_id='807844' first='Amelia' last='Olson'], and [player_tooltip player_id='828132' first='Addison' last='Dooyema'] are all averaging over two kills per set. Brookfield East will be in a pool this weekend with Pewaukee, Manitowoc Lincoln, and Mukwonago. Waukesha West has had a big season behind two dominant senior outside hitters in [player_tooltip player_id='209368' first='Mia' last='Jannazzo'] and [player_tooltip player_id='277428' first='Ireland' last='Zyzo']. They will have a big weekend at the Sprawl as well where they take on Cedarburg, Menomonee Falls, and Muskego

Up Next and Rising

Watertown is 10th in the Max Preps D1 rankings where they have raced to a 17-2 start. However they were swept by conference opponent and highly ranked Waunakee and will not have the chance to face other sectional opponents before tournament play starts. Pewaukee is in the top 15 for D1 when it comes to Max Preps and plays a rugged non conference schedule. They are led by attackers [player_tooltip player_id='240999' first='Mia' last='Hudson'], [player_tooltip player_id='771006' first='Sydney' last='Brewster'], and [player_tooltip player_id='249665' first='Kennedy' last='Tisdale']. They know how to take on some of the top teams. They will kick off the Sprawl this weekend with a key match with sectional opponent, Mukwonago.

Section 7

This section is wide open with teams located South of Milwaukee. Right now it looks like the top two right now are Franklin and Oak Creek. Franklin is sitting at 49th in the Max Preps D1 rankings while Oak Creek is at 18th. Oak Creek has already two wins over Franklin. They will be at the Sprawl this weekend and will also have tournaments at Brookfield East and Arrowhead. The [player_tooltip player_id='223818' first='Isabella' last='Ruether'] who is averaging 3.6 kills per set while middle blocker [player_tooltip player_id='376272' first='Ava' last='Turlais'] is hitting over .400

Section 8

DSHA is once again leading the way in this sectional. They have raced out to a 21-0 start where they have won big tournaments in the Joust and Charger Challenge. They will be the top seed heading into the Sprawl this weekend and will head down to Chicago later this season for the Asics Challenge at Mother McAuley with some of the top teams in the country. They are being led by sophomore pins in [player_tooltip player_id='587062' first='Harper' last='Wendlick'] and [player_tooltip player_id='545505' first='Tegan' last='Loechler']. Some other teams to take note of in this sectional who are having strong seasons would be Wauwatosa East and Wisconsin Lutheran. Both of these teams are in the top 25 when it comes to the Max Preps rankings. East is 17-7 where they have a youth movement going on there with sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='545509' first='Sylvia' last='Flood'] leading the way along with freshman [player_tooltip player_id='771899' first='Juliet' last='Otto']. Wisconsin Lutheran remains steady where they have great balance. Sophomore Addy Abramowski averages over five digs per set, junior [player_tooltip player_id='435889' first='Gigi' last='Chasco'] is a lethal setter at the net, [player_tooltip player_id='487025' first='Nicalai' last='Eismann'] is scoring plenty of points on the outside while [player_tooltip player_id='522159' first='Tyler' last='Hill'] holds it down in the middle.
