Halfway through our classes here in Indiana, and week three of the season is almost up. There is plenty of talent to go around, but we wanted to pick five teams that are tearing up the 900 square feet right now. Here they are, with three important players each.

#5: Greencastle, 7-1

The momentum of the 2022 season has all led to this, as the Tiger Cubs have come out of the gate red hot, winning seven of their first eight matches on the young season. Greencastle had some struggles that fall, but made it to the sectional final, eventually winning the sectional in ‘23. Led by freshman outside [player_tooltip player_id='883459' first='Sophia' last='Gooch'], this super young squad should be good for years to come. Sophia's got a family tradition of success in volleyball—-Caroline Gooch won a county POY award in the fall of ‘22. Two juniors also make this team go in [player_tooltip player_id='254826' first='Makenzie' last='Creviston'] and [player_tooltip player_id='745224' first='Allie' last='Landry']. Makenzie's size and training make her a handful for most teams she goes against, as she's part of a balanced attack and also leads the team in blocks. Allie is a solid 5-1 setter, and will need to find more hitters than the above two if they wish to advance in the sectional again this year.

#4: Southwood, 4-2

There's too much talent on this roster for me to leave Southwood out of our weekly top five. [player_tooltip player_id='494521' first='Shania' last='Rhamy'] (Kentucky commit) is an absolute beast on the floor, with a relentless work ethic that embodies what the SEC is all about. She can do everything needed for this squad to advance deep into October. Joining her on the offense this year is junior [player_tooltip player_id='847596' first='Hali' last='Pershing'], a strong left side attacker that can hit all of the shots needed for an outside, but also someone that can keep the pressure off of teammate Rhamy. I also like senior [player_tooltip player_id='827471' first='Mylah' last='Dillon'], who can sprinkle in a couple of kills per set for good measure. After multiple years of winning 30+ game each, it's nice to see a multifaceted attack from this squad.

#3: Manchester, 11-1

Wow. I had ZERO idea how solid this Squires program was, until now. As balanced of an offense as there is in any class, a three-headed monster leads this offense. Case Western commit [player_tooltip player_id='505196' first='Ava' last='Felgar'] is the 6'+ size needed for a deep playoff run. Between her ability to hit multiple angles AND her size to lead the team in blocks, she's a much-needed asset for Manchester if the Squires like playing deep into October. A pair of pin attackers help Miss Felgar out on offense—-senior [player_tooltip player_id='793492' first='Elizabeth' last='Renz'] and sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='834476' first='Lacy' last='Trump']. Miss Renz brings the heat on each and every swing, while Lacy has all of the shots in the book to go along with a powerful shoulder. These three attackers can keep defenses guessing constantly; hence why they have the most wins in 2A at the moment.

#2: North Posey, 6-1

I feel bad having to count that lone loss, since it came against a school from Illinois. No matter, though—-this roster has a pair of youthful attackers that should be great for the Vikings this year and next. Both Sage Mueller and [player_tooltip player_id='435854' first='Avery' last='Little'] average 3+ kills per set while hitting north of .300 on the season. Although the former stat is intriguing, I'm more amazed at the latter; that efficiency will serve these ladies well come October. Senior setter Siri Fullop runs a nice offense in the 5-1, and her decision-making this season might make or break this squad in their southern Indiana run in the playoffs.

#1: Brownstown Central, 8-1

I mentioned in the 2A preview how the Braves play everyone and anyone they can on their schedule, and I'm not wrong. The Braves' lone loss is to 4A power Floyd Central, and they have a match this week against 4A New Albany. And why not? They're the defending 2A state champs, building their awesome resume with recent wins over 1A champ Trinity Lutheran and 4A squads Bloomington South and Columbus North. Senior stud [player_tooltip player_id='839883' first='Sophie' last='Wischmeier'] is a Union kid with aspirations on playing at the next level, and is fully capable of doing just that. She's a primary-passing outside that should never come out for any reason, and thus far, she hasn't—-she leads the team in kills and digs in the 2.5 weeks of the season. Fellow senior Brailey Teipen adds another three kills per set, taking some of the pressure off of Sophie, while junior attacker [player_tooltip player_id='830158' first='Aylah' last='Belding'] brings even more offense to the fray. There's a reason why Brownstown is always in the discussion for state championships, PLURAL. Between the scheduling, the training, and the well-balanced offense, there's no doubt that the Braves are the front runners this season, again.
