A Senior-Laden Roster

One of the most defining characteristics of the 2025 Class AA team is its experience. The roster is overwhelmingly composed of seniors (Class of 2026), with 16 of the 22 selections being 12th graders.

Veteran Setters at the Helm: Key playmakers like [player_tooltip player_id='735800' first='Bailey' last='Finck'] (Jackson County Central), [player_tooltip player_id='249685' first='Savy' last='Repinski'] (Cotter), and [player_tooltip player_id='348408' first='Ella' last='Thorson'] (St. Croix Prep) are all senior setters who have been the faces of their programs for years.

Urgency in Performance: This senior-heavy selection could suggest that the 2025 season was a "peak" year for many programs, where long-developed talent finally matured into championship-caliber play.

Ruud is a senior Outside Hitter for Pequot Lakes High School and her All-State selection recognizes her dominance as a terminal attacker and all-around court presence. She played a central role in the Patriots' successful season in Section 6AA. As a veteran leader, Ruud's power and skill were essential in driving the Pequot Lakes offense, and solidified her standing as one of the elite outside hitters chosen from the Class AA field.

Lobitz is a six-foot senior Right Side for the Albany Huskies, a team that finished 4th at the 2025 State Tournament. Her All-State selection is a testament to her versatility and high-level statistical production on a top-ranked team. Lobitz's final season stats included 322 kills and 359 digs over 103 sets, demonstrating her ability to contribute as a six-rotation player on both offense and defense. Furthermore, she ranked highly in the state with 62 serving aces and maintained an efficient .239 hitting percentage, solidifying her role as a consistent, high-impact player throughout Albany's deep tournament run.

Michaelis had a truly phenomenal four-year career and dominant final season as a Right Side for New Life Academy. As a senior, Michaelis was a two-time All-State selection and a key leader who helped the Eagles secure a third-place finish at the State Tournament. Her final season was statistically robust, featuring 320 kills, 211 digs, 52 blocks, and 50 aces. This kind of production showcased her value as a versatile six-rotation player who was effective both offensively and defensively at the net.

Future Outlook

With nearly 75% of the All-State team graduating, Class AA will see a significant changing of the guard in 2026. However, the presence of elite juniors like [player_tooltip player_id='731839' first='Katie' last='Vetter'] (Outside Hitter - Hawley), [player_tooltip player_id='177440' first='Cora' last='Bicknese'] (Right Side/Defensive Specialist - Chatfield), and [player_tooltip player_id='738970' first='Abigail' last='Telander'] (Outside Hitter - Rush City) ensures that the top programs will reload rather than rebuild.

Gravelle was a commanding presence as a Middle for Wadena-Deer Creek. As a 2027, she established herself as a dynamic force at the net with a high volleyball IQ and relentless work ethic. Gravelle is an "absolute wall" defensively and is known for closing blocks with precision while also providing a consistent and strategic offensive threat. Her ability to control the middle of the court and her savvy playmaking were instrumental in the Wolverines' success this season.

Hawley's "Gold Standard" Representation

It is no surprise that the Hawley Nuggets, the 2025 Class AA State Champions, anchor this year's All-State team. Their "repeat" campaign was fueled by a core group of elite athletes, three of whom earned All-State honors:

[player_tooltip player_id='738208' first='Annaka' last='Johnson'] (2026 Middle Hitter): A dominant force at the net, Johnson's ability to control the game with her blocking and efficient attacking was central to Hawley's reverse-sweep victory in the state final.

[player_tooltip player_id='731839' first='Katie' last='Vetter'] (2027 Outside Hitter): Only a junior, Vetter proved herself as one of the state's premier terminal attackers, leading the Nuggets' offense in crunch time.

[player_tooltip player_id='794381' first='Hannah' last='Stotts'] (2026 Libero): The defensive anchor who kept the system running, ensuring the Nuggets could transition from defense to offense seamlessly.

Having three players selected from a single public school program highlights the balance and talent Hawley has produced.

Positional Breakdown

The Middle Blockers: This year's class featured exceptional size and athleticism in the middle. Players like [player_tooltip player_id='738208' first='Annaka' last='Johnson'] (2026 - Hawley) and [player_tooltip player_id='485662' first='Brynn' last='Panek'] (2026 - Albany) weren't just blockers, they were primary offensive options who could take over matches.

The Six-Rotation Outsides: The ability to play all six rotations is a very high-valued asset. [player_tooltip player_id='731839' first='Katie' last='Vetter'] (2027 - Hawley), [player_tooltip player_id='455614' first='Alaina' last='Johnston'] (2027 - Belle Plaine), and [player_tooltip player_id='828247' first='Isabell' last='Scheuch'] (2027 - Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted) represent the do-it-all outside hitter who contributes as heavily in serve receive/defense as they do in the front row.

Grahl gave an exceptional performance as a six-rotation Outside Hitter for St. Croix Lutheran Academy this season. As a senior, she was a statistical powerhouse, serving as her team's primary offensive weapon with 361 kills (averaging a high 4.2 kills per set) while maintaining an impressive .382 hitting percentage. Her value extended well beyond scoring, as she was also a defensive anchor for the Crusaders, recording 273 digs, demonstrating the complete all-around game required of an elite Class AA prospect.

Elite Setters: The list includes dynamic setters who often doubled as attackers, such as [player_tooltip player_id='249685' first='Savy' last='Repinski'] (2026 - Cotter) and [player_tooltip player_id='735800' first='Bailey' last='Finck'] (2026 - JCC). In Class AA, the setter is often the best athlete on the floor, and this roster confirms that trend.

The "Power South" and Central Depth

While the champions reside in the north (Section 8AA), the geographical balance of power in Class AA is heavily tilted toward the southern portion of the state, specifically Sections 1AA and 2AA.

Section 1AA (The Gauntlet): The State Runner-Up Chatfield Gophers placed two stars on the team: setter [player_tooltip player_id='261237' first='Harper' last='Goldsmith'] and versatile junior [player_tooltip player_id='177440' first='Cora' last='Bicknese']. They are joined by standouts from Caledonia ([player_tooltip player_id='890438' first='Aubrie' last='Klug']) and Cotter ([player_tooltip player_id='227875' first='Camrie' last='Macal'], [player_tooltip player_id='249685' first='Savy' last='Repinski']), proving that the Hiawatha Valley League remains one of the toughest small-school conferences in Minnesota.

Section 2AA (The Deepest Field): This section produced a staggering number of selections, reflecting its status as a "state tournament before the state tournament." Southwest Christian ([player_tooltip player_id='497702' first='Breanna' last='Beckering']), Belle Plaine ([player_tooltip player_id='455614' first='Alaina' last='Johnston']), Watertown-Mayer ([player_tooltip player_id='211208' first='Alaina' last='Burns']), and Waterville-Elysian-Morristown (Addison Condon) all earned spots. The sheer volume of honorees from this region underscores how battle-tested these teams are by the postseason.
