Dishing Up More Than Holiday Meals: 2028 Assist Leaders

Grocery stores will be packed this weekend as shoppers buy turkeys, cranberry sauce, and boxes of Stove Top as they plan to dish out holiday meals.   Here is a report on some of the leaders who dished out assists during their sophomore seasons.   This is not an all-inclusive list, as it only includes ranked athletes with completed Prep Dig Profiles, and the cutoff line for this report was 500 total assists.    Hayden's Walter has posted back-to-back seasons with at least 1,000 assists. During her sophomore season, she dished out 1,054 assists in 99 sets played. She has played in back-to-back Class 4A State Tournaments. She knows how to win matches and has natural athletic skills. She is ranked No. 9 overall by Prep Dig Kansas and is the second-ranked setter in the Kansas Class of 2028. She was named to the KVA Class 4A All-State first team.     Lewis is ranked No. 50 overall by Prep Dig Kansas. She tallied 849 assists in 83 sets played for the Jaguars. She communicates well and does a solid job of keeping all of her hitters involved in the offense. She also recorded 148 digs and 33 aces during his sophomore campaign.     Garden City's George registered 807 assists in 85 sets played. She has already reached the 1,000-career assist benchmark. She also has a mean serve, which has accounted for 48 aces in back-to-back seasons. George is ranked No. 24 overall in the Kansas Class of 2028.     Kinsella was an honorable mention athlete on the KVA Class 6A All-State Team. She finished her sophomore season with 762 assists in 94 sets played for the Eagles. She has registered 1,542 in two seasons as North's setter. She is ranked No. 37 overall by Prep Dig Kansas.     Andrews' season ended on the second day of the Class 5A State Tournament. She is one of the most physical setters in the state of Kansas. She has the frame, strength, and quickness to be a wrestler. She recorded 740 assists for the Lions. She has produced back-to-back seasons with 700-plus assists. Andrews is ranked No. 14 overall.     Beloit's setter had a breakout season for the Trojans. This was her first as Beloit's primary setter. She dished out 637 assists in 90 sets played. She also tallied 143 digs and 37 aces. She has solid fundamentals and is well-coached. She will have the chance to play and win a bunch of matches in Beloit. She Stroede is ranked No. 41 by Prep Dig Kansas.     Maxwell shared setting duties for the undefeated Class 2A State Champions. She was named to the KVA Class 2A All-State second team. She tallied 605 assists in 100 sets played. She is a six-rotation athlete who could honestly play any position on the court. In two seasons combined, she owns totals of 1,159 assists, 401 kills, and 478 digs. She has a high ceiling, a ton of volleyball ahead of her, and I don't see how at least one of the Division II schools in Kansas grabs her, unless she goes off to play DI. She ranked No. 7 overall and is the top-ranked setter in the Kansas Class of 2028.     Harris was named an honorable mention athlete on the KVA Class 6A All-State team. She tallied 536 assists in 87 sets played for the Class 6A State Champion Jaguars. I first saw her and her twin sister playing club ball as eighth graders. Blue Valley West has a truckload of talent and will be a favorite to defend its state title next year. Harris is ranked No. 25 overall in the class of 2028.
