NKYVC 17 Tsunami, Tide Team Overviews

The 17 Tsunami and Tide teams have reloaded trying to make great memories over the first six months of the new year.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Tsunami</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This team is mostly intact from last year's 16-1 Tsunami team with the return of seven players. The three new players are Kings junior teammates [player_tooltip player_id='725537' first='Kennady' last='Horsley'] at libero/outside hitter and [player_tooltip player_id='608312' first='Anabelle' last='Seni'] at setter/right side hitter along with 6-0 junior outside hitter/defensive specialist [player_tooltip player_id='480801' first='Savanna' last='Stacey'] from the defending Ohio Division IV state champion McNicholas Rockets.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Ryle senior defensive specialist [player_tooltip player_id='486910' first='Ria' last='Furuta'] is back to start up things with crisp first touches and Seven Hills junior [player_tooltip player_id='592217' first='Jackie' last='Katuska'] will also play defensive specialist if not set. McNicholas junior [player_tooltip player_id='480835' first='Maria' last='Schulte'] is also back to set or play right side hitter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The team is loaded with size in the middle and outside. Cincinnati St. Ursula 6-1 junior [player_tooltip player_id='480820' first='Lola' last='Waleskowski'] plays right side/outside hitter along with Notre Dame junior 6-2 [player_tooltip player_id='484250' first='Teagan' last='Kondik']. The two six-footers are Beechwood junior [player_tooltip player_id='484443' first='Macy' last='Armstrong'] at middle/opposite hitter and McNicholas junior [player_tooltip player_id='480823' first='Lilly' last='Tierney'].</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The team has started off 5-7, but has finished in the top half of both tournaments. Tsunami has taken third out of 34 teams in the 17/18 Girls and fifth out of 32 teams in the Nike Classic 17 Open. The head coach is Brooke Logan and the team plays in the Central Zone Invitational in Indianapolis on Saturday and Sunday in the 17 Open Division.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Tide</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This team has half the members back from last year's 16-2 team with Newport Central Catholic junior [player_tooltip player_id='484445' first='Jordyn' last='Reckers'] and Mount Notre Dame junior [player_tooltip player_id='518986' first='Gabby' last='O'Keefe'] starting the attack in the back row. Seton junior [player_tooltip player_id='487258' first='Reagan' last='Dolan'] plays setter and outside hitter with Holy Cross (Covington) junior [player_tooltip player_id='484458' first='Lucy' last='Lenihan'] playing setter and outside hitter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>St. Henry junior outside/opposite hitter [player_tooltip player_id='727134' first='Kayleigh' last='McCormack'] and McNicholas junior [player_tooltip player_id='727166' first='Grace' last='Tierney'] at outside/opposite hitter are the other two that came from last year's 16-3 team along with Lenihan. The team's tallest player is Bishop Brossart junior middle blocker [player_tooltip player_id='515259' first='Callie' last='Ritter']. New Richmond junior [player_tooltip player_id='885433' first='Lillian' last='Fite'] plays middle/opposite hitter at 5-11 with Cece Kronauge playing defensive specialist and opposite hitter. Katuska can do a variety of sets. Defensively, she has good range. Armstrong goes up hard trying to get hands on balls if not outright put them down for big blocks. She is tough when setters put balls at the peaks of her swings. Fite pounds crosses and other hits to different zones on the court. Fite has strong footwork to pound balls down on ones and gaps.
