Indiana 16U Players To Watch At The Triple Crown

Being that the Triple Crown in Kansas City is an invitation-only affair, it stands to reason that nothing but high-end, open-level teams are playing there this coming weekend. The handful of Indiana-based teams that have been invited have plenty of talent to watch, which we'll list below. Here are eight players to watch in the 16U division, listed alphabetically according to the club they play for.    With size and physicality, Elena has had a meteoric rise in her skill set improvement over the past year-plus, and she's only getting better. Her attack touch is close to ten feet, she can hit any angle with her left arm, and has the size to give opposing attackers pause when she's blocking. Even her transition foot speed has improved, which proves the diligence she has in the training gym during the most important year of her recruitment.     The highest flyer on the Yeti, Amaya's athleticism immediately separates herself from other outsides in the class of ‘28. Already accustomed to a faster-than-average offense, she uses her speed and quick transition ability to make gravity look like a suggestion. Along with that athleticism is her relentless attention to in-the-gym training—-she's constantly posting her progress videos, which currently include a ton of floor defense and passing.     Speaking of fast and athletic, Abbie's ability to terminate at will because of her speed in transition puts her in the “players to watch” list. Ready to attack either in front of or behind the setter at all times, Miss Powell led the entire state of Indiana in hitting percentage, proving her terminal abilities aren't a fluke. Although “only” six feet tall, her long arms make her tough to go against on defense, and she closes blocks well because of her long arms and long strides when she defends from pin to pin. About as complete a package as you'll get from the middle position in this class, Abbie's abilities are already next-level.     Smart, quick and tough, Miss Terry has some of the best hands among all setters in all classes in Indiana. She gets her hands on every ball, regardless of where the ball is passed. Location and tempo stay consistent, even when out-of-system. Athleticism in her position is hard to come by, and has it in droves—-certainly more than most in any class of setters. She's shown up and shown out in multiple showcases of ours over the last two years, and her open-level play for Munciana's top teams over the years proves how much she belongs at the highest level of play.     If a definition of a right-handed right side existed in human form, Miss Edwards would fit that definition perfectly. Long, lean, and with a super high attack point, Reagan's the complete package RIGHT NOW for next-level recruiting. I'm sure she'd be just as effective on the outside as a three-rotation option as well, but her blocking pushes her ahead of a lot of right sides in this class. She could probably stand to be a bit more wide in her blocking technique, but that's a nitpick that can be trained in the gym with reps and time. In the early part of the club season, Reagan has been the offensive outlet for her half of the 6-2 the 16s team runs at PHP, and she's only getting better and stronger from here.     As part of the two-time defending 4A state champs, Paityn is a tough, strong and smart middle that finds defensive weaknesses and hammers them to death. Unforced errors just don't happen with Miss Lauck, as she turns inconsistent setting into point-scoring opportunities. On defense, she's anticipatory and vocal, and is a second coach for her fellow blockers when in the game. No, she's not the biggest middle out there. However, her smarts, strength and court vision more than make up for her size.     One of the most well-rounded outsides in this class, Hadley has the entire package that a ball-control-first outside should be. Need a defensive play? Hadley's already read the attacker and dug the ball. How about a solid receive of serve to ensure in-system play? Yep, there's Hadley. A smart and controlled shot in out-of-system play? Miss Hasselbring can do it. She's the whole package, and can be anything from a full-time, six-rotation outside to a three-rotation defender and everything in between at the next level.     High school teammates with Hadley, Isabella is one of the rare over-six-footers from Providence. Not only is she big, but the physicality she brings to the middle position is unmatched in this class. When in-system, she hits a HEAVY ball, which is hard to block and even harder to dig. On defense, her broad and strong shoulders make it tougher than average to get a swing past her without a touch. A rare gem in the middle from southern Indiana, Miss Manos is clearly one of the better middles in the class of ‘28, and might be one of the first off of the recruiting board when this summer comes around.
