I've been fortunate to write about a lot really good volleyball witnessed this club season. It's reaffirmed that the talent in this state continues to rise.

That said, there's a lot more of you than me. It really does help when video highlights are posted on the various platforms. I can catch up on your progress and file new or updated reports until watching in-person again.

Here's a collection of reports on uncommitted Iowa 2027s based on the viewing of film and/or in-person scouts:

The Iowa Falls-Alden junior earned Class 3A all-district laurels in 2025 season that saw her produce 271 kills (.229), 145 digs and 37.0 blocks. This club campaign, she's helped CIA 17 Black earn a Freedom Division bid at the USAV National Tournament this summer in Indianapolis with a fifth-place finish at the Iowa Regional earlier this month. Dagel is athletic, making up for the lack of traditional height in the front row with explosion off of the court and an impressive vertical leap. Throw in hang time, and she consistently gets on top of the ball. Dagel is especially adept at the quicks because of her best traits. She also processes the defense, reading blocks quickly. Dagel flashes a good feel for the block and agility helps in digging up the ball when in position to do so.

Pexa stands out for her all-around athleticism as a multi-sport standout for Dunkerton. This winter, she led the the Raider basketball team in scoring during a run to the state semifinals. The Dunkerton volleyball team also reached the state semifinals with Pexa pacing the squad in kills (446, .373) and digs (368). She added in 48.0 blocks. She's competing in track and field this spring, finishing eighth in the high jump at last weekend's Watrburg indoor meet. All of the above speaks to explosion and quick-twitch. Despite not having the height and long arms we see at the net, Pexa has a really good feel for the block by getting off the court quickly and timing her leap, which is substantial. She's also a hammer hitting from the outside or the opposite pin. Basketball might be her prefered path to college athletics, but plenty of volleyball programs on the next level would benefit from her being in their roster.

VanDerPol is competing with PowerPlex 17-Mendoza this club season following a strong junior campaign at Des Moines Christian in the fall. For the Lions, she registered a team-high 236 kills (.220) and 85.0 blocks, which also paced the squad. VanDerPol added 73 digs to the cause. Mendoza finished ninth out of 29 teams at the recent USAV Iowa Regional Tournament in Central Iowa. Checking out highlights on her Sports Recruits page, we can witness her playing at a high level for that outfit. VanDerPol is a dangerous two-way middle with a broad base of skills. She can finish the attack on quick sets or by getting on top of traditional sets. The slide attack is smooth and powerful. VanDerPol reads the opposing attack well, which adds to her natural abilities in throwing up a block.

It's important to remember there are quality volleyball players throughout the club circuit. It's not always strictly located on a program's top team at an age group. Peters can play. She's on United's No. 2 team. The top squad won the USAV Iowa Regional earlier this month. She's advanced her game after a limited season at Linn-Mar in the fall. Peters produced 31 kills and 12.0 blocks in just 29 sets. Her Sports Recruits page houses video highlights from this winter and spring. On them, we witness a versatile attacker just as likely to put one down from the right-side pin as she is to do so from the middle. Peters moves well laterally and adjusts to set location, giving her a wide kill zone. It's a whip-like swing that's heavy and gets through the hitting zone quickly. She diagnoses the opposing attack well, which positions her to throw up an effective block.

I first saw Ball play during the 2024 state tournament, when she engineered an upset of top-seeded Xavier in the first round. Sergeant Bluff-Luton returned to Xtream Arena for the state tournament this past fall with her dishing out 697 assists to go with 175 digs, 60 kills and 27.0 blocks. She'll enter her senior season with 1,521 career assists. An on-line search did not yield a club team for Ball. That said, what I've witnessed of her playing as a prep at state the last two years provides optimism that Ball could compete at the college level if that was the chosen path. A program on the next level providing an opportunity would receive an agile setter with good size and long arms at the position. Balls moves around the court fluidly and flows with the action. She delivers consistently precise sets and often finds the attacker with the most advantageous position. Ball can dig up the ball and provide an effective block, too.
