The 2028 class continues to impress across the board, but one position group that constantly stands out in Arizona is the middle blockers. It's something we talk about often here at Prep Dig because the depth in this class at the position is genuinely hard to ignore. From elite athleticism and physicality to fast offensive tempo and game-changing blocking presence, this group is loaded with talent that is already making an impact at a young age.   The versatility within this group also stands out. Some middles dominate with size, length, and physical presence at the net, while others separate themselves through timing, explosiveness, court awareness, and high volleyball IQ. Whether it's running a fast tempo attack, sealing seams defensively, or staying available in transition, this class has shown an impressive understanding of the position early on.   Simply put, Arizona's 2028 middle blocker group is one of the strongest position groups in the state, and the amount of talent still developing within it makes the future even more exciting.   Here's Who You Need to Know    Every time Amari steps onto the court, she continues to prove exactly why she sits at the top of the 2028 class. She's the complete package — smart, athletic, physical, and incredibly skilled — but what truly separates her is how versatile she is for her position. She's far more than a traditional middle blocker. Amari can impact a match from every area of the court, whether she's running quick tempo in the middle, stretching defenses on the pins, or finding ways to terminate in high-pressure moments.   Her offensive range is what makes her so dangerous. She runs a variety of sets with ease, stays available in transition, and creates constant matchup problems because of how dynamic she is offensively. She's explosive, efficient, and understands how to score against different defensive looks instead of simply relying on power. On the defensive side, she presses over the net extremely well, closes blocks at a high level, and reads attackers with maturity beyond her age. Her volleyball IQ consistently shows up in the little things, and she plays the game with confidence and intention every time she touches the floor.   What's most impressive is that she already has the ability to completely shift momentum in a match. Players like Amari don't come around often, and her ceiling is incredibly high. With her athleticism, skill set, and competitive mindset, she's the type of athlete who is going to make an immediate impact wherever she goes.     [player_tooltip player_id='593870' first='Annabelle' last='Ross'] is the type of player who instantly grabs your attention the moment she steps on the court. She plays with an intensity and competitive fire that's impossible to ignore, yet still manages to be an incredible teammate throughout the process. Her passion for the game shows in every rally, and she brings an energy that elevates the players around her.   Offensively, her quick, whip-like arm swing is a major weapon. She attacks with confidence, speed, and purpose, making her difficult to defend in transition and in-system situations alike. One of the most impressive parts of her game is her ability to read overpasses and terminate them immediately — she's always alert, aggressive, and ready to capitalize on opportunities at the net.   Defensively, she does a great job tracking hitters, reading angles, and establishing herself as a strong blocker. Her slides are especially tough to contain because of how fast and efficient she moves laterally, and once she gets going offensively, she can completely change the momentum of a match.     [player_tooltip player_id='883370' first='Mikaela' last='Lee-Tsosie'] has been an undeniable force for the AZ Storm 17 Thunder squad this season and continues to prove why she's one of the most intriguing young middles in the state. It's impressive enough to consistently contribute while playing up an age division, but doing it at the middle blocker position — where speed, timing, and physicality are constantly tested — makes what she's accomplishing even more impressive.   Mikaela moves extremely well laterally along the net, allowing her to close blocks quickly and stay involved in every phase of the game. Offensively, she runs quick tempo sets with confidence and efficiency, staying available in transition and creating problems for opposing defenses with her speed and timing. She plays with a high motor, communicates well, and carries herself with composure beyond her years.   One of the biggest things that stands out is the trust her team has in her. Her setter consistently looks to her in important moments, and Mikaela repeatedly delivers by doing her job at a high level every time she steps onto the court. She continues to develop into a complete middle with a very bright future ahead, and we're excited to watch where the game takes this talented young athlete over the next few years.     [player_tooltip player_id='882771' first='Makinlee' last='Landis'] first caught our attention during the high school season, where she established herself as a dominant presence for Hamilton and quickly proved she belonged among the top talent in the state. Her transition onto one of Arizona's top club teams felt completely earned, and she has continued to validate that level with her play ever since.   What immediately stands out about Makinlee is her defensive impact as a middle. She's one of the most polished defensive middles in the class, consistently putting up a strong, disciplined block while also excelling in off-blocker defense. She reads the game well, closes seams effectively, and does a great job taking away angles at the net. Her ability to transition from blocking responsibilities into defensive coverage is especially impressive and separates her from many players at her position.   Beyond the physical side of her game, it's the little details that make Makinlee such a valuable middle. She's vocal, energetic, highly coachable, and adapts quickly to in-game strategy adjustments. She plays with purpose and awareness every time she steps on the court. One aspect of her game we especially enjoy watching is her ability to attack the setter in Zone 1 — she recognizes opportunities well and applies pressure in ways that can completely disrupt an offense. Makinlee continues to show why she's one of the more impactful middles in the class, and her ceiling remains incredibly high.     [player_tooltip player_id='826238' first='Gabriella' last='Nucci'] is the type of middle blocker who impacts the game in every phase and consistently proves she can do it all. She's a major offensive force at the net, terminating the ball at a very high level with power, confidence, and efficiency. Whether she's running quick tempo in the middle or finding seams against a block, she knows how to create scoring opportunities and finish plays.   One of the most impressive aspects of her game is how well she moves in transition. Gabriella is constantly available for her setter, does a great job getting established quickly, and keeps herself involved offensively throughout every rally. Her footwork and timing are extremely polished, and you can tell she approaches the game with intention and discipline. She plays with great body control, strong technique, and a high volleyball IQ that allows her to stay effective in both system and out-of-system situations.   Gabriella brings consistency, athleticism, and reliability to the middle position, and her ability to impact matches offensively makes her a difficult player to slow down.     [player_tooltip player_id='882773' first='Matilda' last='Hinder'] has been a standout presence for Aspire this season and continues to establish herself as one of the more impactful middles in her class. From the moment she steps on the court, it's clear she's an athlete who has spent years developing her craft. She's mechanically polished, fundamentally sound, and plays with the kind of discipline and confidence that reflects high-level training and preparation.   What makes Matilda especially dangerous is the combination of her quickness, aggressiveness, and volleyball IQ. She plays with urgency in every rally and consistently rises to the occasion in clutch moments. Whether it's making a key block, staying available in transition, or finding ways to score under pressure, she has a natural feel for the game and understands how to impact momentum.   Defensively, she's a major force at the net. Matilda closes blocks well, presses over effectively, and does an impressive job slowing down opposing offenses. It's very clear her team leans heavily on her ability to disrupt attackers and establish a strong presence in the middle. Her physicality, composure, and understanding of the game make her an incredibly valuable piece for Aspire, and she continues to trend upward every time we watch her compete.     [player_tooltip player_id='778155' first='Ava' last='Martinez'] has put together an incredibly strong club season and continues to show why she's a player we expect to hear much more about as her career progresses. She brings a high level of energy and impact to the middle position, consistently finding ways to influence matches on both sides of the ball.   One of the biggest strengths in Ava's game is her ability to close blocks quickly while defending the pins. She moves laterally with purpose, reads attackers well, and does an excellent job sealing seams against opposing hitters. In one-on-one hitter versus blocker situations, she's especially impressive, using strong timing, discipline, and physicality to take away offensive options and force tough swings.   What also stands out is how involved she stays in every rally. Ava tracks the ball exceptionally well, remains available in transition, and has earned the trust of her setters to make a play from anywhere on the court. Whether the pass is perfect or out of system, she works hard to stay connected to the offense and consistently gives her team a reliable option. Her motor, awareness, and competitive presence make her a difficult middle to play against, and her future in the sport is incredibly bright.     [player_tooltip player_id='886737' first='Tina' last='Henry'] is the type of athlete every team values because she consistently finds ways to get the job done. She plays with confidence, urgency, and physicality, making her a reliable presence every time she steps on the court. Offensively, her quick arm swing and powerful attack allow her to terminate at a high level and put constant pressure on opposing defenses. She attacks aggressively, stays efficient in transition, and plays with the kind of decisiveness that makes her difficult to slow down.   Defensively, Tina brings just as much impact at the net. She does a great job being aggressive with her block, pressing over well and taking away angles from hitters. Her lateral movement is especially impressive, allowing her to close blocks quickly and stay involved across the entire front row.   She combines athleticism with strong instincts, making her a true defensive force for her team. Tina's motor, physicality, and ability to impact the game on both sides of the ball consistently make her a standout presence on the court.     [player_tooltip player_id='888727' first='Ashlyn' last='Bishop'] played a major role in the success of the Atomic 16 Smack Premier squad this season and consistently proved herself to be a high-impact middle in key moments. She plays with confidence, aggression, and a strong understanding of how to score against high-level competition, making her a constant problem for opposing defenses.   One of the most impressive parts of Ashly's game is her offensive awareness. She understands when to attack the corners, how to create angles, and how to use smart shot placement instead of relying solely on power. Her timing on quick tempo attacks is especially effective, allowing her to stay ahead of blockers and create consistent scoring opportunities for her team. She plays fast, decisive, and with a level of confidence that stands out immediately.   Defensively, Ashly is explosive at the net and does an excellent job making aggressive touches that help slow down offenses and support her back-row defenders. She presses well, stays disciplined with her hands, and competes hard on every rally. What separates her even more is her ability to rise in clutch moments — she never looks intimidated by pressure and consistently finds ways to make impactful plays when her team needs them most. Her competitiveness, timing, and offensive efficiency made her a huge contributor to 16 Smack Premier's strong season.     [player_tooltip player_id='882649' first='Leala' last='Pittsley'] has been a pivotal piece for her Omni squad this season and continues to show the kind of potential that should make her a major impact player at the high school level. She brings a dynamic presence to the court and consistently finds ways to influence matches in multiple areas of the game.   What stands out most about Leala is how versatile and dangerous she is in the front row. She's truly a triple threat offensively, capable of scoring in a variety of ways while keeping defenses under pressure. Her serve is another major weapon, creating disruption from the service line and giving her team momentum in key stretches. Offensively, her arm swing is especially impressive — quick, explosive, and difficult for defenders to read once she gets going in rhythm.   Beyond the physical tools, Leala's upside is what makes her such an exciting athlete to watch. She has the athleticism, aggression, and developing skill set to continue elevating her game as she gains more experience and confidence. She's a player we fully expect to keep trending upward, and we'll definitely be following her growth closely moving forward.    <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />    [player_tooltip player_id='960900' first='Michala' last='Robertson'] showcases pure athleticism every time she steps onto the court, and it's immediately noticeable from the very first rally. The first thing that stands out in her game is her explosiveness and vertical ability, which consistently gives her an advantage at the net. She elevates exceptionally well, allowing her to attack over strong blocks, create difficult angles for defenders, and stay effective even against bigger front rows.   Her athleticism translates into much more than just offense, though. Michala moves well laterally, stays active in transition, and plays with a high motor that keeps her involved in every point. Offensively, she's aggressive and confident, attacking with purpose and using her elevation to create separation from defenders. Her ability to stay high above the net gives her hitters' vision and allows her to make smart decisions mid-swing instead of simply relying on power alone.   Defensively, her physical tools make her a strong presence at the net as well. She closes blocks quickly, tracks attackers effectively, and uses her length and jumping ability to disrupt opposing offenses. What makes Michala especially exciting is that her ceiling still feels incredibly high. The combination of natural athleticism, explosiveness, and developing volleyball IQ gives her the potential to become a very impactful player as she continues to grow and refine her game.    It's been an incredible club season, and the growth of Arizona volleyball continues to impress us every step of the way. From major qualifier performances to breakout individual seasons, this year has once again shown just how much talent exists across the state.
