Eight Superstar Standouts at the 501 Volley College Camp

Prospects who are already familiar in Arkansas volleyball circles are now making a name for themselves outside the state - and for a good reason. With coaches from the likes Alabama, Houston, Tulsa, Liberty, North Texas, Georgia State, Southeastern Louisiana and Arkansas State working with and evaluating talent throughout the day, several stars consistentaly rose to the top of the gym.    If there was one player repeatedly commanded attention throughout the camp, it was Brinkley. The 2029 outside hitter from Bryant High School and EVA 15 Elite put on a show as she continues to establish herself as one of the premier young prospects in the state.   At 6' Gigerich already possesses the size that coaches covet, but what sets her apart is volleyball IQ. She's not just a tall player, throughout drills and competitive situations, Brinkley displayed a powerful arm with the ability to score from anywhere. Perhaps the most impressive sequence of the day came when she repeatedly attacked through blocks formed by the college middles helping run drills. She attacked confidently and aggressively. But it wasn't just her power, it was her shot selection that set her apart. Gigerich knew when to power through the block, go off high hands, use a soft tough or attach with a sharp cross. She has every shot in her bag.   She is just beginning to mature physically but is already ranks as one of the most imposing players in the state regardless of class. The combination of size, arm strength and court awareness gives her one of the highest ceilings in the state.     [player_tooltip player_id='807595' first='Asa' last='Perry'] is a rare athlete. If you didn't know her, you would think that she was one of the college players helping with the camp.   Perry displayed the type of complete game that translates well to the college level. Whether participating in skill work or six on six competition, she consistently finds way to impact play and make herself noticeable.   Asa has the ability play multiple spots on the floor. She controls the game as a setter with soft hands and pinpoint accuracy, she can swing from both pin positions with a full array of shots, and her serve receive and digging are top notch. Size wise, she may be a bit of a tweener standing at 5'8" to 5'9", she makes up for it with tremendous leaping ability and very strong mental game. Her volleyball IQ is off the charts.     Few players in attendance possessed the physical stature and presence of Kate Barker.   The 6'3" middle hitter immediately stood out whenever she stepped on the court. Size alone doesn't guarantee success, but Barker pairs her length with a developing athleticism and willingness to compete.   Throughout camp she showed what makes her an intriguing prospect. She covered ground well laterally, presented a large blocking presence at the net and demonstrated the ability to terminate attacks at a high point of contact. As Barker continues to refine her footwork, strength and timing, her ceiling remains extremely high.   Players with Kate's size are always going to attract attention from college coaches, but what stood out during the camp was her coachability and desire to improve. She competed on every drill and play. With continued development, Kate has the potential to become a premier middle blocker prospect in Arkansas.     [player_tooltip player_id='758288' first='Hendrix' last='Yancey'] is one of the most enjoyable players in state to watch. She has a big personality to along with her big play.   The 2030 middle/pin hitter from the EVA 14 Elite showcased a combination of athleticism, versatility, and upside that is difficult to find in players her age.   Standing 5'11", Yancey possesses length and strong athletic tools, but it is her versatility that truly stands out. Throughout camp she demonstrated the ability to work effectively as both middle blocker and right side. Defensively she showed strong blocking instincts from either position and challenged attackers no matter their age.   Offensively, Hendrix displayed a surprising complete skills set. She attacked line, cross court, utilized soft roll shots and powered through blocks-something not commonly seen from younger players.   Yancey's energy and enthusiasm are infectious, helping elevate teammates and bringing a positive presence to every court she steps on.     Great hitters need great setters, period. We can talk all day about about the flashy outsides or dominate middles, but without setters delivering the ball to the right spot, it doesn't make much difference.   2029 setter [player_tooltip player_id='773932' first='Brynn' last='Bohannan'] once again demonstrated why she is widely considered one of the top young setters in Arkansas. Her volleyball IQ immediately stands out. She consistently reads the game at an advanced level and understands how to put hitters in position to succeed.   Throughout the camp, she quickly built chemistry with virtually every hitter she worked with, regardless of club affiliation. But again, you hear the term versatility thrown out. Many setters will focus on running the offense, Bohannon impacts matches in multiple ways. She shows strong defensive instincts in the backcourt, quality ball control and the ability to contribute across multiple positions when needed.   The connection between Bohannon and Gigerich is one of the most dangerous in the state and will be for years to come.     The [program_tooltip program_id='581540' first='501' last='Volley'] 16.1 team is one of the most complete teams in the state (hint you will see more of their players in this article). Taylor is a big reason why. She showed why she continues to generate attention among coaches.   The 2028 pin hitter brings an intriguing combination of size, athleticism and versatility to the court. At 5'11", Wherry has the physical tools coaches look for in a pin, but what stood out was her willingness to compete in every phase of the game.   Whether attacking, defending or serving, Taylor consistently played with confidence and intensity. You could tell she was soaking in the coaching and making great connections with coaches and players. Her ability to impact both the front and backrow makes her a valuable piece of any lineup.     If London is on the court, you will know it. Whether she is flying over the net, making a great dig or egging her teammates on, Jackson commands attention on the court.   London just has a different gear. She is as explosive as any other player in the state and her ability to hit from anywhere on the court is unmatched. Line, cross, backrow, ten-foot line, deep middle...she can hit it. Just as impressive is her ball handling. I have said before, if she wasn't an outside hitter, she could be one of the best liberos in the state. Her anticipation and quickness serve her well all over the court.   With all the hype surrounding her athletic ability, Jackson remains humble and thankful for everything she has and for those that have helped her to this point. She will be a great asset wherever she ends up.     Another [program_tooltip program_id='581540' first='501' last='Volley'] 16.1 piece of the puzzle. [player_tooltip player_id='884840' first='Makylah' last='Davis'] continually stood out through both performance and leadership. She was commanding the court from the middle position,   Her star is definitely on the rise in recruiting and playing on a top team in the 2028 class doesn't hurt! Her progression from last season to this season has been tremendous. What stood out at the camp was how well she communicated and how hard she competed in every aspect of the game. She was pushing other players to do the same. She hits a slide as well as most college players and she gets off the floor quickly when it comes to her block.   Makylah still has a lot of room to grow in her game, but the ski the limit on her as player. Coaches often talk about players who elevate those around them. Davis showed she is that player.    With so many great players at the 501 camp it was hard to weed it down to just a few that stood out. It shows the development of Arkansas volleyball as a whole and these camps continue to grow across the state.   While younger prospects like [player_tooltip player_id='768346' first='Brinkley' last='Gigerich'], Brynn Bohannon, Kate Barker and [player_tooltip player_id='758288' first='Hendrix' last='Yancey'] are starting to establish themselves as future stars, players such as [player_tooltip player_id='746203' first='Taylor' last='Wherry'], London Jackson, [player_tooltip player_id='884840' first='Makylah' last='Davis'] as well as many others in attendance demonstrated why they are earning attention of college programs.   From elite athleticism and physical tools to high volleyball IQ and positional versatility, the camp provided another reminder that Arkansas volleyball continues to produce players capable of competing on larger stages.
