With Nationals just weeks away and recruiting season beginning to ramp up for the 2028 class, [program_tooltip program_id='581540' first='501' last='Volley'] hosted their College Camp on June 1st, bringing together players from the ages of 13-17. Several young players really showed out in front of college coaches from The University of Alabama, Georgia State University, University of Houston, Southeastern Louisiana University, University of Memphis, Liberty University, Tulsa and Arkansas State University.

Throughout the day, college coaches led position-specific training, skills development drills, and competitive game situations, providing players with direct instruction while evaluating talent from across the state. I was able to attend the afternoon session, and energy was running high from start to finish. Players were engaged, coaches were active on the courts, and the intensity increased as the day went on. The best part was when they transitioned into 6 on 6 competition. While many established prospects were in attendance, several players that are under the radar stood out with their athleticism, size, and potential.

One player who immediately caught my attention was 2029 libero from Mt Home, [player_tooltip player_id='931278' first='Zoey' last='Throckmorton']. While she is from Arkansas, she plays for 417 Jrs out of Missouri. At 5'4", Throckmorton displayed great defensive instincts, good movement and a willingness to compete on every ball. She was a vocal leader on the floor even though she was playing with all-new teammates. Her passing skills were top-notch, and more often than not, she read the play well and stayed on her feet to make the play. Her energy and court presence consistently showed up during drills and competition.

Throckmorton's high school and club teammate [player_tooltip player_id='784841' first='Maycie' last='Carlson'], also impressed. The 2029 Outside hitter/middle stands at a true 5'11" and possesses the size coaches look for at such a young age. She has long arms and legs so she can reach well beyond her height. Carlson competed well against some of the best 15's in the central Arkansas area and showed that she could play all the positions in the front row as well as great skills in serve receive and digging. Her versatility will be an asset as she continues to develop.

Among the younger prospects in attendance, Finely Rice was hard to miss. The 2030 Outside from Christ the King HS and EVA 14 Elite already stands at 5'10" with a frame that has more room to grow. She demonstrated great confidence when matched up against older players. Rice showed great arm speed and footwork while appearing very comfortable in high-level competition. She was constantly smiling and was very coachable. Her skills look far beyond her age.

Another 2030 prospect who stood out was Emma Booy of Conway High School and Hollenbaugh Jrs 15 Elite. Also standing 5'10" with a powerful frame, Booy displayed solid tools and showed flashes of her offensive potential. Her receiving platform was very strong and she was able to show great blocking skills at the point of attack. She excelled in the 6 on 6 play. When I first saw her, I thought she had the wrong color t shirt on as she looked more like a 17-year-old. As she continues to mature as a player, coaches will want to keep her on their radar.

A 2028 outside hitter from Vilonia HS and Conway Jrs 16 Nationals team had a productive afternoon as well. At 5'9", Craig competed with confidence and showcased the all-around skill set coaches value in their pin hitters. Her passing was on point, and she was able to hit all zones of the court. Her ability as a six-rotation outside hitter makes her a valuable asset to any team she plays for. It was evident that she can compete at a high level, and by adding strength training will really help get her in the top level of the class of 2028.

One of the most intriguing front row prospects is 2029 Middle/Pin hitter [player_tooltip player_id='756178' first='Hadley' last='Masters'] from Cabot HS and [program_tooltip program_id='581540' first='501' last='Volley'] 15.2. She is a long rangey middle standing at a legit 5'11". She possesses the length needed to play middle but can also hit well from the pin positions. She had good movement and anticipation on defense and added some wow hits on offense. Another player whose versatility is a value add for her future. Hadley can benefit from more strength training, and her frame can easily hold the muscle while maintaining her fluid movement. As she continues to grow, she will be another in the long line of great players from Cabot.

Events like the [program_tooltip program_id='581540' first='501' last='Volley'] College Camp provide valuable opportunities for athletes to receive top notch instruction and insight from college coaches while competing against some of the best talent across the state. Just as important, it allows young players to gain exposure and hear from the coaches themselves about the ever-changing recruiting process. With Nationals fast approaching, camps like this serve as a bridge between player development and future recruiting opportunities.
