Most freshmen are just getting their feet wet and will find themselves on JV and C squad teams. However, there are freshmen that are already seasoned veterans. Despite only beginning their high school careers this fall, they have spent a year or more competing against older players and have already proven they belong. That early experience has helped with their volleyball development as well as enhanced their confidence. As they officially enter their freshmen seasons, expect these young standouts to make an immediate impact on their high school teams and continue building on the success they have already achieved.

Finally entering high school, Stortz steps into the varsity lineup as a returning starter, marking this her third season at the varsity level. I have had the chance to watch her play quite a few times in the past year, and she does really stand out. She's got a quick, heavy swing, moves well, and plays with a confidence that is hard to teach. As her high school career continues, she is likely going to become one of those names people around Mabel-Canton talk about about years when discussing the great local volleyball talent.

Sherburne is another freshman who already has significant varsity experience as she ran the court for Spring Grove as an 8th grader. Combine that with the club experience from this spring and you can really see her game growing and developing. I have always been a fan of lefty setters and she is one that catches your eye. She sees the floor well, reads defenses, and is not afraid to be aggressive offensively when the opportunity arises. As she continues to grow, she has the potential to turn into a real standout.

I've been a huge Holtorf fan for a while. She is a setter who isn't one note, rather she can do just about everything. She plays fast, delivers a clean ball, runs the offense well, tracks down tough passes, isn't afraid to dump, and can even attack from the right pin. Training and competing with a talented MN Select 14-1s squad is only going to help her continue to develop. While she is young, I'm calling it now as I think Holtorf is going to do big things. I think her future is incredibly bright.

I remember stumbling across a [program_tooltip program_id='429186' first='Kandi' last='Elite'] team a couple of years ago and noticed this smaller libero who was making impressive plays all over the court. I wrote down her number, and when I checked the roster, I realized she was playing up two age levels. Since then, I have had the chance to watch Blahosky play on the varsity team with Willmar as well and she has been impressive every step of the way. She plays with a fearlessness that you can't teach, is solid in technique, and is already accustomed to high level competition. She's the type of player college coaches are going to want to scoop up, however, they are going to have to wait a couple more years yet.

Johnson is impressive on so many levels. She's been playing varsity since 7th grade and has worked her way into a starting role thanks to her aggressiveness, athleticism, grit, and overall competitiveness. I had the chance to watch her play up two age levels this club season, and she didn't look out of place at all but rather, looked like one of the leaders on the court. She also brings great height to the position, which, combined with her ability to be a six rotation outside hitter, makes her an exciting prospect with a very high ceiling.

I had the chance to watch Gostomsk up close last season when we played Providence Academy in a tournament. She really stood out for her versatility. She's a true utility player who can step in as a defensive specialist and also slide into an outside pin hitter role when needed. What impressed me most is how ready she is the moment. She comes off the bench without hesitation and adjusts to whatever the team needs in the moment.
