And, as we alluded to in our preview of this update wave, this new release is not the end of the journey. We have even more time to reevaluate, make additions, and roll out some needed tweaks in the next few weeks. This could yield another overhaul earlier than our usual timetable.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>But, with that said, we have a lot to cover with this current list. Heart of America 2028s brought a lot to the national club stage this fall, giving us tough rankings decisions to make at all levels. We're always splitting hairs with these movements, and the choices won't get easier.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>We still have some trends to address, and the rise of hard-hitting attackers is the motif for today's feature. The top of Kansas' 2028 list has no shortage of prolific scorers, whether they operate on the pin or patrol the middle. Criqui eclipsed a scoring average seldom seen at any level: six kills per set. She took nearly 1,300 swings for Marais des Cygnes Valley last fall and hit 0.361 despite all that volume. Of course, we want to go beyond the head-spinning numbers to Criqui's winning qualities with the Trojans. The six-rotation outside hitter dishes out incredible heat that can stagger defenders in the right place to make a play. Criqui also brings that intangible competitiveness that comes with being a three-sport star at MDCV. The volleyball side has generated eye-popping figures like the 500 kills she amassed with Hayden High School in 2025. Schmidtlein's prep tape reveals one of the most unique, dynamic hitters in the state, regardless of class. As the dial spins from one rotation to the next, Schmidtlein morphs from a pin hitter to a middle attacker to a jaw-dropping slide hitter. That leads to a 1,000-swing sophomore season and further growth with Topeka Saints this spring. The club's 16 Gold roster was loaded with high-octane scorers from Kansas' prep circuit, and Miller added to the trend at the outside hitter spot. She set a tremendous freshman mark with 4.4 kills per set in 2024, but the Royal Valley attacker did one better with 5.4 as a sophomore. Miller transitions hard off the net and is particularly partial to hitting inside shots on the '32' route. She led Olathe North's tab last fall with a near-0.300 hitting clip, putting her near the top of Kansas' sophomore sheet. We've seen similar effectiveness on the club side. I have fond memories of covering MAVS 16 Elite's hot start at Kansas City's Triple Crown NIT, and Weinert aided the effort through her output in the middle. As far as breakout sophomore seasons go, few athletes enjoyed a bigger rise than Asmann. She earned some reps in Year 1 but rapidly morphed into Derby's leading attacker to close out 2025. Asmann finished with the team leads in kills and hitting percentage, setting the table for her right-side onslaught with KNVBC. Playing up a year did not stop Black from wielding her snappy right arm to produce jaw-dropping kills. Black's frontcourt agility allows her to run swift crossing patterns, getting ahead of blockers in first-ball situations. The results have shown in the box score, especially after Black's 440-kill sophomore season with Holton. That has landed her a featured role with Dynasty 16 Black, which piled up plenty of podium finishes at the Open level. McGovern's rise has been perpetuated at Blue Valley High School, where she collected over three kills per set on a 0.283 average. This rangy athlete has demonstrated her willingness to flex over to the left pin, adding to her intrigue as a rising junior prospect.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
