High Risers on Day Two of Bluegrass Games

Gold spots came into play on the second day of the Bluegrass Games in all three classes. These players rose up trying to lead the respective teams into the championship rounds or to at least bounce back from a rough first day.    Turner (pictured) may be ready to take the 12th Region by storm. Turner and her family said the transfer from Assumption occurred for family reasons and she is already fitting in at Somerset. Turner takes charge on the court, which head coach LaDawna Tucker said has been needed there. Turner makes sure her teammates are in the right positions and will use her experience at the fast-paced open club level to push her teammates to up their games. Turner is mainly playing pin hitter for the Jumpers to help in other parts of her game, but still sets when the team is out of system. Turner tools blocks on roll shots and excels at shoving balls from the four to the opposite shallow four zone side lines. Turner is a hustler on the court. She dug up attempted set-overs and makes sound in-air adjustments. She brings a lot to the game that could propel the Jumpers to new levels this fall.     One can not say enough about the great decisions Courtney makes each time she takes the court running the offense. The Rockets have great hitters all over the court and Courtney tries to involve every one of them so teams can not key on one player. Courtney is used to playing at a fast-paced level for KIVA 16 White in the spring and is pushing her teammates to higher levels. Courtney tries to set away from double blocks and makes quality touches when the team is out of system so hitters can send across down balls.     Rager has an outstanding approach, extension and finish for the Lakers. She gets on top of balls and sends balls screaming to different zones on the court, especially on go routes. Rager paints lines with precision. She is also coachable and energetic on the court. She also forms solid double blocks.     Price has done her part to make sure Shelby Valley consistently gets into a good offensive rhythm. She uses a good platform and forms walls around balls on defense and serve reception. Price reads hitters well and she does not hide behind blocks. She is also a sound server for Shelby Valley.     Cox has turned into an all-around playmaker for the Titans. She records strong serves and makes sound passes in the back row. Cox even makes sound out of system sets on top of continuing to control the net well. She has a quick arm swing and makes good in-air adjustments to send balls away from opponents. The lefty also excels on blocks using a solid technique.
