During my coverage of last week's Iowa Stock Up Showcase, I alluded to the fact that middle blockers are often outnumbered at showcase events. That was evident again in La Vista, but Haertel ensured that quality far exceeded quantity. This Elmwood-Murdock junior packed a ton of frontcourt heat in front of the setter and did not wear down with escalating reps. Her hard work also yielded plenty of positive block touches in team drills, allowing her fellow frontcourt terminators to find success. This Lincoln North Star standout has been on our showcase stage before, landing on our radar after several well-rounded performances. We then covered her 2026 stint with Nebraska Juniors 16 Red, and Rihanek's stock elevated further. Her favorite set is the "slow-quick" in the middle, which allows Rihanek to get on top of the ball and overpower opposing blockers. Teams committed two blockers to slowing her down but did not succeed. We can now throw Covert into the mix following her showcase preeminence on both sides of the setter. Not only could Covert soar over the competition in the front row, but her eagerness to contribute in the serve-pass phase made her a star among the 2029s. This encapsulates Covert's biggest impact as a freshman with David City, as she logged triple-digit digs in the Scouts' backcourt. The Moulton name has loomed large in the Club Legacy gym, and we have another one in the works for the incoming freshman class. This latest iteration is a springy outside hitter who also boasts a precise platform beyond her years. It was easy to forget Moulton was competing against seasoned veterans while elevating at the net during scrimmages. The athleticism we saw during positional drills quickly translated to in-game effectiveness that could seldom be stopped. Versatile athletes lifted S-E-M to multiple tournament appearances and a state title. Cranwell is eager to carry on the tradition and flashed the same multi-position potential at our showcase. She's listed as a setter on our packet, but Cranwell made the most of her attacking reps during Saturday's scrimmages.
