Much of Fulshear’s strong offensive performance had to do with the fact that James had good passes to work with the entire time and Black had much impact on that. The senior libero played a flawless match, leading the team’s serve-receive efforts masterfully with 19 passes and helping keep the team’s stability throughout the match. Black was excellent with her ball control, passing very well and getting 16 digs. She also did a fine job from the service line and was accurate when she had to set in transition.

A stud for her high school team Fulshear since she was a freshman, Black also plays for HJV 17 Elite and is ranked third among the liberos in her age group and 18th overall. She’s fearless and very tough on the backcourt and will do whatever it takes to keep the ball off the floor. Extremely technical and quick, Black is always very active and gets to cover a lot of ground both on defense and serve-receive. She’s also developed into a leader for her teams, instructing her teammates on the backcourt and encouraging them in difficult moments.

One of the top liberos in her age group in the entire state, Black will be the defensive rock for her HJV 16 Elite team in the 18 Open division. She has a great command of the backcourt and is one of the leaders of her talented team. Although Black is extremely technically-gifted and very quick and athletic, it’s her mental strength that sets her apart. Besides reading the game very well and being able to anticipate plays, she also works very hard for each point and never gives up on a play. Black is also very solid with serve-receive and has become a more confident and consistent player on the court as her game continues to develop.

If Warren’s development at the net has been noticeable, the same can be said about Black’s game on the backcourt. She was Fulshear’s starting libero last year as a freshman and one full high school season and another at the club level made of her a much better player. Black has always been technically solid but has made progress on the mental side of the game, playing with more confidence and consistency. She’s always displayed some improvement in minor things, such as setting in transition.
