It appears that every time I watch this young lady play, she adds yet another piece to her skill set. This time around, she showed at Hoosier Regionals that her slide is improved and—dare I say it—-terminal. Becoming a complete middle is hard; most her size perfect one aspect, and stay stagnant throughout their careers. In Miss Mays’ case, her constant, consistent improvement of all parts of her game shows out each and every time she takes the court.

It seems that every time I see Miss Mays play, she’s added another part to her prodigious volleyball skill set. This time around, she’s starting to really terminate slide plays with wicked efficiency. Time and again, she was the primary attacker behind the setter in the regional semifinal against a plucky Rev squad, and Rev had little to no defense for that slide. Yes, she’s already 6’2” and should use her length and stride to take advantage of the speed of the set. However, as I’ve alluded to before, there aren’t too many middles in Indiana that have the size, speed, strength and skill set to be next-level ready as a middle. Milana should definitely be counted as one of the best in her graduating class at her position, and she’s only getting better from here.

You can’t ask for much more from the middle when speaking of Miss Mays. Long, lean and fast, Milana is a solid M1/M2 hybrid that excels with a setter that understands speed and accuracy. Over the last year plus, she’s also upgraded her defensive game, using that length of hers to penetrate on the block and make life a lot tougher for opposing attackers.

Length for days and a knack for looking taller than she is, Miss Mays is the long and lean middle that can terminate from anywhere. Behind the setter, she’s explosive, and uses her super long strides to drive to the ball. On anything in front of the setter she picks and chooses her angles, and takes what the defense gives her. I’d like to see a bit more width on her block, as she has a tendency to keep her hands narrow when pressing across. No big deal—-that’s something she’s learning in the training gym at Circle.

As a middle with length and a tendency to terminate in bunches, Miss Mays will be much-needed this weekend in Circle’s first major tournament of the young club season. With injuries on the attack for the 17 Purple squad, she’ll be called upon even more to take the pressure off of some of the younger, lesser experienced attackers on her squad. With a wing span that can defend from pin to pin and an ability to put balls away at will in the middle, Milana is more than capable of earning a D1 commitment and fits the mold better than a lot in this age group and position.

Long, lean and explosive, Milana has all of the tools and the talent to play Division I ball in the fall of ‘27. She has the length to defend from pin to pin well, transitions quickly to show readiness for offense, and can terminate from in front of or behind the setter in any tempo and at any time. Reliable, athletic and no-nonsense, Miss Mays will be a fine addition to the stable of middles at any school needing just such a middle.

Long, lean and athletic, Milana is a solid and dependable middle who can terminate off of either one foot or both. Her length is definitely her strength, and can make up for some odd footwork with her long legs (defending pin to pin) and arms (going over blockers on the attack). You can’t teach 6’2”, and you CERTAINLY can’t recreate what Miss Mays is capable of in this class, as the best available middle in ‘27 from Indiana.

The highest jumper with the longest reach on this list, Milana’s instant impact for Circle’s top 16s team was obvious, bringing size, speed and a high attack touch. More of a quiet assassin than a “look at me” type of player, her defensive length also stands out, as she can defend from pin to pin in just a couple of steps. I look forward to further development from Miss Mays, as she gets stronger and faster this fall for Fishers.

was one of the most impressive middles I watched on Day 2 at USAV Nationals. She brings a high motor and aggressive mindset at the net, consistently terminating quick sets and running fast tempos with power and precision. Milana moves fluidly side to side, getting touches on nearly every swing and closing blocks with strong timing. Her ability to impact both offensively and defensively makes her a true force in the middle and a standout to watch this week.

Speaking of a smooth-playing middle, Miss Mays is the M1 for Circle’s top 16s squad. With length for days and the ability to render blocks useless because of the height of her attack touch, Milana’s only true weakness is her upper body strength—and that is an absolute nitpick, as her arm swing is quick and her leg drive allows her transition to be very fluid. Her season has really exposed just how good she’s become, as her open-level play is more than ready for the next level.
