CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - In-state club teams playing up at last weekend's Mizuno UNI-Dome Challenge can benefit from the experience moving forward. That certainly should be the case for Adrenaline 16 Doug, which finished second in the 17U Division.

SMV 17-1 out of Rochester, Minn. took the title with a hard-fought, 25-22, 25-21 victory in the championship match against Adrenaline 16 Doug. The victors won all 14 sets they played during the weekend, while the silver medalists took 12 of 15 sets.

The top in-state finishers in this division will be in the hunt for a regional title next month in Des Moines. It's a well-rounded squad with the pieces to get it done.

I've scouted [player_tooltip player_id='320104' first='Presley' last='Myers'] and [player_tooltip player_id='389066' first='Cambel' last='Drapeau'] throughout last club season and the high school campaign. Myers' game has grown significantly to where she's more than a hitter/blocker. While she's still really good at those skills, she's added the ability to play in the back row with improved agility and court movement. Drapeau showed me again why I think she can be one of the best players in the state's '26 class as a versatile, two-way performer in the front.

Paycee Sorgenfrey keeps winning me over every time I see her play. While she doesn't possess the cookie-cutter physical traits often sought after by colleges, this kid can deliver as a six-rotation dynamo. She's an explosive athlete with an insane vertical leap, hang time and power in the swing that can also dig it out in the back. I'm a believer.

This outfit is deep and dangerous with talented performers in [player_tooltip player_id='215390' first='Jovi' last='Evans'], [player_tooltip player_id='447581' first='Grace' last='Knock'], [player_tooltip player_id='389068' first='Miley' last='Manternach'], [player_tooltip player_id='389071' first='Harper' last='Pacha'], [player_tooltip player_id='389069' first='Sophie' last='Sander'] and Sariah Sherman. Again, look for this group to build off of this experience.

Other Notes and Observations from 17U Division

-I enjoyed watching Flight 17 out of Janesville. A smaller club, it finished third in this division with a sound team where the pieces performed well together.

[player_tooltip player_id='389012' first='Channing' last='Johnson'] ('26) is one of the state's better setters. Kya Bradfield and [player_tooltip player_id='508680' first='Zoey' last='Barnes'] stand out in the the front row. Alayna Akers, Peyton Curley, Liz Hovenga and Reese Tisue help make up a deep, talented back row.

-Adrenaline 17 Brooke has continued making strides in coming together. The group finished fourth in this tournament after clinching a national berth at Northern Lights the previous week.

[player_tooltip player_id='215388' first='Adalyn' last='Hermanson'], Kira and [player_tooltip player_id='447579' first='Kelsey' last='Klesner'], [player_tooltip player_id='242669' first='Gracie' last='Hoskins'], [player_tooltip player_id='508657' first='Paige' last='Schurbon'] and [player_tooltip player_id='215393' first='Jenna' last='Younge'] are among the standouts on this squad.

-Six Pack 16U took fifth playing up a division. [player_tooltip player_id='261058' first='Brynn' last='Bakula'] continued showing why she's one of the state's top setters regardless of class. Mya McCoy, [player_tooltip player_id='389010' first='Annistyn' last='Wedgbury'], Bailey and [player_tooltip player_id='389009' first='Grace' last='Mullihan'], [player_tooltip player_id='552867' first='Allison' last='Koch'] and [player_tooltip player_id='389011' first='Alexa' last='Buhman'] helped make this team competitive even without one of its better players, [player_tooltip player_id='389014' first='Abby' last='Jensen'], who was sidelined with a leg injury.

-JVA 17 Florence impressed me with its performance, including when it pushed Adrenaline 16U Doug to three sets on Sunday. Brooklyn Lyftogt, [player_tooltip player_id='730835' first='Teya' last='Speltz'], Thia Raridon and [player_tooltip player_id='508663' first='Chloe' last='Huisman'] were among the high-end performers on this team.
