[player_tooltip player_id='335612' first='Lauryn' last='Coleman'] tops the 2026 rankings update for middles, checking in as the #5 player overall for the class. Nearly forty middles made the latest update, and the hard working and sometimes under appreciated players roaming the net get their shine in this article. The MB has to work, work and work some more, and often the end result is a pin taking a swing and ending a rally to the cheers of the crowd. However, there is a reason good middles are in short supply, and that once they find one coaches never want to see them move to another position. Here are several stand outs from the latest rankings update.

It's easy to see Colemans explosiveness on the court, that was there as a freshman when Lakeside made a run to the state title with Coleman already a contributor on that terrific team. This club season, her read and feel for the game looked next level. Coleman flowed to the seams in system and in transition, giving her setters a target that was available and in great position to score. Score she did, pounding kills down to the angle and rocketing swings off the block. As a blocker she has the speed and timing to go get an attacker on the pin, but her eye work and anticipation allowed her to get a great jump and be in position to not have to make as many big moves to close the block. At Emerald City she recorded several monster stuff blocks, against some excellent teams and players in the 18 open Division.

Tenneson is a physical, raw prospect who plays above the net with her 6'1" frame and solid athleticism. The Port Angles High School athlete has a strong and accurate off speed tip she can push to the floor, and she is aggressive in attacking overpasses and jousts at the net. Tenneson has all the tools you can want in a young, developing middle blocker, she will be one to watch this fall.

Hanson is all of 6'2", and the rangy middle from Puyallup continues to develop solid footwork and increased power. She takes the #52 spot in the rankings update, and should only keep getting better playing for a Puyallup program that has turned out excellent middles year after year. Hanson started showing the high swing and strong hand contact that will allow her to score above and around the block consistently.

A rising junior from Shadle Park High School in Spokane, Schroeder worked hard on her footwork and routes during the club season and it paid off. The 6'0" middle looked more fluid running the slide and working quick sets to both side of her setter. Schroeder took aggressive swings at overpasses and found ways to score on tips and shots to the open spots when the defense gave her the opportunity. She moves up to the #20 overall middle in the rankings and should have the Highlanders in the hunt for a return trip to state.

Jamieson is going to be a force to be reckoned with for West Valley Yakima this fall season. The 2026 prospect is long and powerful, with a big arm swing and an aggressive approach to playing the middle. She looked ready to be a difference maker during the CWU Summer tournament, scoring by turning the ball around the block and swallowing up opposing attackers on the block. We expect to see Jamieson perform at a high level for the Rams at the 4A level.

Schwab has outstanding versatility- she is able to play the middle, the right side, and has excellent hands as a setter. Watching her work at the setter spot at the Summer Soiree- you can see her playing the position full time- and she might! However, she has a terrific natural arm swing, competes like crazy at the net and is a bouncy athlete, and will likely put up excellent numbers as a blocker and attacker for Gonzaga Prep this season. Schwab is a top notch lacrosse player as well- she will definitely have options moving forward.

We expect Zalewska to continue to climb the rankings, the rising junior from Mercer Island is fast, aggressive and terminal as an attacker. She has a whippy arm and plays bigger than her listed 6'0" height. Zalewska is a prospect flying a bit under the radar, and that includes our team here. She shows passion and energy on the court, and looks good on the right side taking huge swings as well. keep an eye on Zalewska and Mercer Island, she should have a break out season this fall.
