Let's dive deeper into Thursday's results.

Yesterday, we covered some results and victorious teams from the opening day of Nebraska's 2024 high school season. A few players were mentioned in that feature, but we want to bring more names into the spotlight.

We're digging into the box scores and highlight tape to find a handful of athletes who started out hot in Thursday's slate.

She's picking up where she left off last year. Dalton delivered a rousing performance in Fremont's season opener against Columbus, but that's typical for the North Dakota commit. The Tigers looked to their star outside hitter for 26 kills on a monstrous 0.449 clip against the Discoverers. This was accompanied by several successful service runs, and Dalton's scoring never wanes in the back row, either.

Perhaps we're due for another breakout year for Summerland? The Bobcats made waves with their upset bid to last year's C2 tournament, and Robertson is keeping the momentum going in 2024. She amassed 17 kills in a three-set battle with West Holt, helping Summerland notch a narrow Thursday victory. We recall how scrappy Robertson's squad can be based on its 2023 postseason performances. Expect more of the same in the next several weeks.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge is another small-town squad on our radar for the 2024 season. The Bears dropped a hotly contested opener to Battle Creek, but Rasmussen led the way for LCC with 15 kills in three sets. She followed that up with a 19-kill performance against West Point-Beemer as Rasmussen's team returned to the win column. This is just the start of what should be an impactful sophomore campaign.

A Booth is still running the show at Elkhorn North. Hayden has assumed the starting setter role after older sister Reese's departure to Northern Iowa. Booth's junior season began with an astonishing 44 assists in just three sets against Elkhorn. This scorching clip has immediately put the Class B standout atop Nebraska's assists leaderboards, and Booth will likely stay there for a while.

Welcome to the big stage. Wiechman generated summer headlines when her [program_tooltip program_id='428728' first='River' last='City Jrs'] 16 Navy squad clinched an AAU title in Orlando. The 2027 middle blocker has now established a major frontcourt role with defending Class A runner-up Papillion-La Vista. Wiechman has been an efficient attacker in early action with the Monarchs, but her blocking goes a step further. She tallied seven scoring blocks in the season opener against Bellevue West. Five of those were of the solo variety, demonstrating Wiechman's willingness to dominate the net by herself.

Are we surprised to see Kucks piling up digs already? The Millard North libero made a quick entrance on the Class A stage and compiled 31 digs in the 2024 debut bout with Papillion-La Vista South. This effort came against one of Nebraska's top high school offenses, so Kucks is not afraid to absorb some heat in the back row. Fearlessness and relentless pursuit are traits that Kucks will bring to Lipscomb University next fall.

Like many of the athletes on this feature, Furstenau made a huge impression at the 2023 state tournament. She was the anchor to Elgin Public/Pope John's defense and finished with some of the state's highest dig averages. That trend will likely continue this fall after she churned out 23 digs against Lutheran High Northeast. We always have to watch the small-town schools for defensive talent, and Furstenau is gaining serious momentum among the 2025s.

We could bring up a lot of statistical categories when discussing Liebsack's impact. She does everything well for Bennington High School, but we're bringing her serving into focus here. Liebsack wielded a wicked jump-spin serve for much of the 2023 campaign. It appears to be reaching good form once again as Liebsack tallied six aces in the 2024 opener against Lincoln Northwest. Liebsack is now an upperclassman and set a high bar after last year's extraordinary output.
