Coester has a good arm on her and brings a little power behind her swings. I thought her shot and decision making through and over the block was a strong suit for her. She was also serviceable in the passing game and had strong hands to assist in getting the ball to the setter.     Buss stood out as one of the more effective scorers in the gym during the showcase. When she gets going, she's hard to slow down. She's primed for a big senior season that should see her climb over the 1,000 kill mark. I note her touches as a blocker were also key to slowing down the attack of the opponent and allowing the rally to continue.     Patience is a virtue, and I saw it quite a few times in Downing. I saw numerous timing issues with the setter on slides, but she kept in the play and found ways to still make a difference, specifically in the blocking department, where she was one of the strongest blockers in the gym. When she was in sync with her setter, she showed good court vision and found the open spaces on the court with a quick swing.     Johnson shone in my view in the defensive role throughout the morning. She works hard behind the block to get in position to keep balls up. She was also one of the few defenders I thought gave great effort on covering her hitters and getting touches on balls that were looking to find the floor.     In the back row, I'm not just looking for strong passers and lights-out defenders. Communication is a big part of the game, and I thought Lane was highly effective with her communication with backcourt mates. She took control of the passing game and talked to her attackers regarding open spots across the net.     Wichita had a strong day, and Marrs rounds out the bunch in this article. As a pin, she was good at passing the ball and playing defense. She is a six-rotation pin who showed she can score from both the front and back row. A very important part of her game that could get overlooked is the quality of swings she takes at out-of-system balls. You like hitters not afraid to let it rip, but being smart at the same time, and she possesses those qualities.
