Players To Watch At Hoosier Regionals: 16U, Part 2

There are SO many high-end recruits in the 16U division of regionals that we had to split up this article into two parts. Although some of the kids in today's edition might be “under the radar” for the average viewer, we know this group from their attendance at our showcases and their early successes this club season. Here they are, in alphabetical order according to club.    Part of the 4A runners-up this past fall, Harper is a smart shot-making outside that can do a little of everything on the volleyball court. With the ability to see what the defense gives her and attack, she surprised some of the volleyball blue-bloods down the playoff stretch last fall, including having an epic match against Yorktown in the state semifinal. She might be relegated to being a defender at the next level, but knowing that she's more than capable of attacking at will with brains and savvy makes her that much more recruitable.     A solid, six-rotation right side for Carmel, Elle is growing into her own player right before our eyes. Regularly filling the highlight reel with high-hitting and heavy attacks to all angles, she's also capable of picking up a ton on defense—-rare in this volleyball world where kids are more position-specific. Active in both the front and back rows, Elle should see some of her recruitment ramp up as the season gets later.     Springy and with a live arm, Victoria's sweet demeanor ends when she enters the 900 square feet. Explosive and terminal from the left side, Miss Kim is more likely to abuse undisciplined blocks and defenses than make a calculated shot to score points. On defense and serve receive, her active feet and calm platform make her ideal as a defensive recruit as well.     Active in volleyball since elementary school, Kendal is the libero that can play anywhere, against anyone, and take on any challenge at any time. She's a left-back as the libero for Rev's 16-1, but has seen time in middle back over the years. Anticipatory and quick, hard-driven balls are made settable when Miss Hatcher touches the first ball. In serve receive, a wide base coupled with an accurate platform leads opposing coaches to try and avoid her. She's received high-level training and been part of high-end volleyball programs for years—-the moment is never too big for this young lady, and this weekend should be no different.     Back-to-back HSE kids at the same high-level tournament is not uncommon. Both being in the top 60 in the same recruiting class isn't either, as Karleigh brings it with her size and ability. An M2 through and through, Miss Smith is up and ready to swing on every ball every time. No play is a break for any opposing blocker, and her high attack point puts defenses on high alert constantly. Unlike a lot of over-six-foot middles in this class, her arm swing is high and “snappy”—-she rotates through the ball quickly to terminate at will when set in-system.     Used as a middle in school ball, Kali is a heavy-hitting outside hitter that can play all the way around as a regular pin attacker. Her club team takes advantage of her upper body strength, as she's seen regularly hammering away at unsuspecting blocks. Despite spending her fall being a middle, there's no shortage of defensive-minded movement, as she's anticipates well and passes cleanly for her position.
