Abbygail Martin, a Class of 2029 libero from Bakersfield Christian School and Torch Volleyball Club, earned her Top Performer recognition at this showcase by doing exactly what great liberos do, which is making every ball look manageable and keeping her team in system when the point gets hard. At 5’3″, she is compact and low to the ground, which works in her favor as a back row defender given how quickly she can change direction and absorb the court. Her reading ability showed up consistently throughout the session, allowing her to anticipate rather than react, which is a sign that the volleyball IQ is already developing at a high level for someone her age. Abbygail’s passing platform was steady in serve receive, and she controlled pace well rather than letting tough serves knock her offline. There were several moments where her competitive energy visibly lifted the people around her.  She plays with an intensity in the back row that sets a tone. Torch Volleyball Club is a young and driven program out of Bakersfield, and she looks like exactly the kind of player that helps build something.
