Piening is back at it again. Stepping up in big moments has become par for the course for this middle blocker. Her 0.400-plus hitting efficiency helped Norris hoist its second-straight Class B title last fall, and that was just the beginning. Piening has brought multi-position versatility to Nebraska ONE 17 Synergy and took part in the squad’s long-awaited Open breakthrough at NEQ. Ascending an age group has never slowed her progress.

Piening was already firmly on our radar after contributing to Norris’ Class B breakthrough in 2024. The standout middle blocker enjoyed an exceptional freshman season, but Year 2 was on another level. Piening soared past two kills per set while hitting a sky-high 0.383 over the entire year. Having such an efficient option next to the setter helped keep the Titans at the top of the Class B food chain, and the results speak for themselves. We’ll now see Piening grow her setter-hitter connections even further with Nebraska ONE 17 Synergy.

Top-seeded Norris has leaned on its offense throughout this fall’s one-loss campaign, but Piening reminded us of the team’s sky-high defensive potential, too. This physical sophomore led the Titans with five blocks and generated positive touches for Norris’ transition offense. Piening and her squad continue their title defense in Friday’s semifinals.

Norris’ stacked roster doesn’t have much sophomore representation, but Piening makes up for it with her dominance in the middle. We alluded to her sky-high hitting efficiency in our LPS Classic preview, but it’s worth reiterating how unstoppable Piening has been. Her iron-clad connection with club teammate

We have a new defending Class B champion for the first time in a decade, and Piening is hoping to establish a new Norris dynasty. This middle-opposite hybrid logged plenty of reps during her debut prep season, but her stock took off while competing with Nebraska ONE 16 Synergy. Piening was a rangy attacking option in the frontcourt who became increasingly comfortable as the season progressed. That development culminated in a podium finish at GJNC and a wealth of summer momentum for this rising sophomore.

We’re sticking with the same team and position for our next entry. Piening has embraced her expansive role with 16 Synergy, especially after mid-season injuries shuffled the deck in the front row. This Norris freshman was a major contributor to the Titans’ championship-winning effort in Class B last fall. Piening’s quickness and versatility made her an ideal fit for the combination plays and crossing patterns that defined Norris’s offense. She brings the same influence to 16 Synergy and is especially effective behind the setter. Expect to see a lot more of Piening later this year as Norris aims for a repeat.

Piening is a surefire addition to our next Class of 2028 watch list and is a do-everything athlete for Nebraska ONE 16 Synergy. We enjoyed watching Piening’s breakout freshman campaign with Norris, where she added to the team’s extraordinary middle depth. She is now playing up a year with 16 Synergy and providing crucial reps as a middle-opposite hybrid. Piening excels at either position and can work into 16 Synergy’s various crossing patterns and combination plays. That versatility was one of many factors that lifted Nebraska ONE to last weekend’s Open title.
