runs an offense that keeps you locked in from start to finish. What immediately stands out is her tempo control and ability to deliver a variety of routes with consistency. She’s not just setting the ball—she’s creating opportunities. From fast tempo to the pins, to well-timed slides and quicks, Ava does an excellent job of distributing in a way that keeps blockers guessing.
Her decision-making in out-of-system situations separates her. When the pass drifts, she stays composed, squares her body, and still delivers hittable balls that allow her hitters to stay aggressive. She uses her eyes well, holding the middle just long enough before releasing to the outside or right side. In high-pressure matches, Ava controls the pace and keeps her team in rhythm, showing a strong understanding of how to run a complete offense. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas

Waters concluded her exceptional debut season with Millard West in the Class A semifinals. It’s a worthy return trip for a program looking to bounce back from its 2023 anomaly. Waters guided the Wildcat resurgence with nearly 800 total assists and a team-leading 37 aces in the regular season. Her ability to stretch the ball from pin to pin was a huge factor in Millard West’s quarterfinal win over defending champion Lincoln Southwest. Load up another fascinating club season.

Here’s a unique pick. Waters participated in last year’s tournament with Gretna East, where she was a dynamic opposite who could also run the offense from time to time. She has now taken her talents to Millard West, where Waters has become an extraordinarily proficient underclassman setter. She is averaging nearly ten assists per set for the Wildcats and has helped her team climb to No. 6 on the Class A list. Waters would be a returning athlete from last year’s tournament, but Millard West is looking to atone for its 2023 postseason hiatus. This group is poised to make amends.

Waters remains one of Nebraska’s most dynamic 2027s at two different positions. She carried a crucial right-side attacking role during her freshman season at Gretna East, placing Waters on our radar right away. Her 2024 club season has offered more examples of this terminal ability, but that’s far from Waters’ only contribution to Premier 15 Gold. She can also set the offense in any system that 15 Gold deploys. This makes Waters a true setter-opposite who will embrace any challenge–including the pressure of being a 15 Open frontrunner this summer.

Waters was a very early entry on our 2027 watch list, and she just keeps climbing the ladder. Her debut season with Gretna East primarily put her right-side attacking range on display. After putting up big numbers on the prep side, Waters made the quick transition to a setter role with Premier Nebraska 15 Gold. She is becoming Nebraska’s can’t-miss setter-opposite in the 2027 class and led 15 Gold to a qualifier triumph at Windy City. The lights will get even brighter in Las Vegas, but Waters has seen plenty of big stages already.
