Austin Kingsley | Prep Dig Scout
Banzai VBC 17 Select gave us the perfect blend of frontcourt weapons and ball-control gems. The latter has been anchored by Torpy, who commanded the libero position through 17 Select’s AAU Nationals journey. The Millard West senior is an instinctive defender who excels at stepping into open seams in the block. Aside from her tremendous floor defense, Torpy also provides the serve-receive stability that allows 17 Select’s physical talent to thrive.

We’ve been anxious to see Banzai VBC 17 Select back at a big tournament since our early-season coverage at NLQ. 17 Select played some exceptional volleyball at that January outing, and Torpy played a big role in the back row. The Millard West senior-to-be can don the libero jersey or relieve any of her frontcourt hitters along the end line. Her quickness and instincts continue to improve as Banzai VBC finds its groove before this weekend’s finale.

Torpy has compiled plenty of high-level reps over the past several months. She was a key contributor to Millard West’s state tournament efforts in the 2024 high school season. Torpy’s incredible command of the middle-back area gave the Wildcats a great DS option to bring off the bench. Banzai VBC 17 Select is eager to bring that influence to its side of the net. We’ve watched Torpy thrive in the libero jersey with pinpoint passes and sprawling defensive saves. Expect more of the same as we get deeper into the spring slate.

We have yet to mention Banzai VBC 15 Select’s lockdown libero, so it’s time to bring Torpy into the discussion. 15 Select has given Torpy some unique tasks this year, including defending the middle-back area as the libero. Torpy has adapted to whatever she’s asked to do, and that’s the sign of a steady libero who can lead this team into the future.
