During warmups, I spoke with Real as she rolled around on a knee scooter.

Real didn’t sit quietly once the match started. Real stayed as involved from the bench as she is when she’s racking up kills, advocating for calls, keeping her teammates in the right rotations and celebrating every big block of the night. She understands that leadership doesn’t stop when the minutes do. Texas is getting a player who impacts a match even when she isn’t on the floor, and after watching her Wednesday night, I’d add coaching to her long-term future.

Ireland Real’s senior season already has a signature moment. On September 30, Santa Margarita handed Mater Dei its first loss of the year, winning 3-1 in a match where two sets were decided by two points. Matches like that are won by players willing to take the big swings late. Ireland dominated, and Mater Dei had no answer.

That performance did not come out of nowhere. As a sophomore, she carried a massive load with 543 kills and more than four kills per set. She has the size of a 6-foot-4 pin and the volume history of a go-to outside. That combination is rare.

Her senior numbers show a player who is playing efficient, aggressive volleyball, with nearly four kills per set. Add 107 career blocks and 82 aces, and she impacts every phase of the match.

She continues to develop, and her ceiling is still rising. Texas is getting an attacker who shows up in big moments. Her spot on the Watch List for AVCA Girls High School Player of the Year says the rest of the country is noticing too.

Ireland Real Ireland Real 6'4" | OH Santa Margarita | 2027 State #4 Nation CA and teammate Kate Jackson Kate Jackson 5'11" | OH/DS/L Santa Margarita Catholic | 2027 State CA have both been on varsity for four years, and their chemistry and trust in one another are evident. Real consistently made big-time plays for the Eagles, while her powerful swing and height at the net proved difficult for opposing teams to stop.

The California kids are all over these national rankings which includes Ireland Real.  Real is “The Real Deal” – I just had to include the pun.  I remember seeing her as a 15s playing for Wave at Triple Crown, knowing she was going to be a top player in her class.  The length, the athleticism, the overall joy and spark she plays with is so fun to see.  Star quality!  Real is 6’4 where she has a high contact point, is a lethal scorer from the backrow, and has a the “X Factor” about her game.  She will take her talents to Texas where the Longhorns have commits coming in with plenty of USA International Experience.

Ireland Real Ireland Real 6'4" | OH Santa Margarita | 2027 State #4 Nation CA is approaching Triple Crown with an intentional focus on consistency and discipline. Her preparation has centered on controlling the details that often separate good performances from sustainable ones, staying sharp in practice, refining small technical adjustments, and taking care of her body so she can compete at a high level across a multi day tournament. She understands that longevity and readiness are built in the daily habits long before first serve.

On the court, Ireland is working to expand her offensive presence, attacking from all areas and becoming less predictable in transition and out of system situations. She has also emphasized maintaining high energy while refining her blocking technique, recognizing that front row discipline and physicality at the net can shift momentum quickly. Her goals are clear, be dynamic, be engaged on every contact, and elevate the standard point by point.

Ireland’s mindset heading into Kansas City reflects maturity. She recognizes Triple Crown as an opportunity to compete at a high level while also embracing the experience. Her message is simple and grounded, compete hard, stay present, and take it all in.
