Austin Kingsley | Prep Dig Scout
Papio’s runner-up effort last year wouldn’t have been possible without Pillay. We first saw her develop as a versatile middle blocker, but those plans changed with some lineup shuffles last fall. Pillay embraced an outside hitter role and proved her ability to score in any area along the net. Her leadership will be even more pivotal in 2024.

Pillay has been heralded as a do-everything player throughout her prep career. When she competed on our showcase circuit, she demonstrated her game-changing ability at the middle blocker spot. However, Pillay’s junior season with Papillion-La Vista was characterized by her willingness to step in as an outside hitter. This versatile attacker terminated on so many tough swings as the Monarchs marched to the Class A title match. Pillay has another big-time opportunity with Banzai VBC 17 Select as GJNC beckons.

Pillay will do anything to help her team succeed. We saw it last fall when she seized an outside hitter role as Papio High marched to the Class A title match. This versatile athlete has experience at just about every frontcourt position imaginable, including middle blocker. Banzai VBC 17 Select has allowed Pillay’s wide skill set to flourish. That eventually yielded a runner-up finish at WCQ to punch 17 Select’s GJNC ticket. Look out for Pillay’s continued progression as she logs another moment on a big stage.

Pillay should capture some attention when Banzai VBC 17 Select travels to GJNC this summer. Her extraordinary play at the middle blocker spot has been a catalyst for high-profile success at Banzai VBC and Papio High. 17 Select earned its Liberty bid at Windy City behind Pillay’s multi-faceted attacking prowess. She is just as comfortable on the slide as she is off of two feet. The last several months have revealed Pillay’s drive to improve and bring her best against elite competition, so she’ll likely keep that going in Vegas.

Pillay’s journey has to be one of my favorite storylines from our summer showcase. The Papio junior was lights-out as a middle blocker during the event, but she took on a completely different role with the Monarchs this fall. Pillay was one of the team’s starting outside hitters and demonstrated her ability to take tough out-of-system swings. The Monarchs could not have made this year’s Class A title match without Pillay’s extraordinary adaptability.

We keep marveling at Pillay’s career trajectory with Papillion-La Vista. The junior brought an extensive background as a middle blocker but made the full-time move to outside hitter this fall. The move immediately paid off as the Monarchs made their extraordinary push to the Class A title match from the #8 seed. Pillay has proven her worth as a left side who can take some assertive out-of-system swings, furthering her range from her days as a middle blocker.

Pillay defines the “hard-working” mantra we mentioned in the intro. She was perhaps the most natural slide attacker among the group of middle blockers and displayed a heavy arm off of one foot. Pillay’s willingness to keep grinding through a high volume of reps during the showcase proves her potential to make a big splash this fall. And, after emerging in the GJNC field with Banzai this summer, Pillay is due for a prep breakthrough.

That has absolutely materialized, and now we’ll see what Pillay can accomplish in Chicago’s big-time environment.
