Emery helped engineer Bellevue West’s breakout 2023 season that ended in the Class A tournament. She’s back near the top of Nebraska’s assist hierarchy with nearly ten per set so far in 2024. This statistical output has come against some of the state’s most formidable opponents, proving Emery’s consistency during adversity. The Thunderbirds will know the value of a senior setter before the year is done.

We have another podium placement from the River City Jrs camp. 17 Navy climbed to the Gold bracket in 17 Aspire and was guided by their star setter from Bellevue West. Emery has the poise and confidence you’d expect from a player who has seen so many big matches. She accurately spreads the ball around and knows what tempos are needed in certain situations. This setter’s next agenda is to back up last year’s state tournament appearance with the Thunderbirds.

It’s hard to ignore what Emery has accomplished over the past several months. Last fall, she ran the Bellevue West offense as the Thunderbirds climbed back into the state tournament. That success put Emery near the top of Class A’s assists leaderboard next to several other elite distributors. Now, Emery is back in the River City Jrs gym where her development keeps yielding more results. She can even take reps as a frontcourt opposite. Keep an eye on River City’s top 17s bunch with Emery leading the way.

This junior setter mastered her pin-to-pin distribution from anywhere on the court, opening up seams for Bellevue West’s attackers throughout the year. Emery’s intangible leadership qualities also came to the forefront, and the same storyline will likely prevail in her senior year.

Emery took over as Bellevue West’s starting setter this year and did an exceptional job in this expanded role. She compiled well over eight assists per set for the Thunderbirds and found an increasingly solid rhythm with her hitters as the season progressed. That’s a good launching point for Emery to have another standout season.
