Austin Kingsley | Prep Dig Scout
We keep adding to this “new team, same success” theme. This time, it’s happening at VCNebraska . Petersen joined the VCN 16 Black crew this year and has transformed the team’s backcourt unit. Last month’s Show Me Qualifier offered another example of how Petersen’s length and range is a game-changer at the libero spot. She puts her platform on balls that are seemingly out of reach and can still deliver them on a dime to her setter. The upcoming prep season is a big one for this Lincoln Southwest standout.

Petersen is the kind of libero who can mesh well with any backcourt personnel. We saw that adaptability when she competed at one of our Prep Dig Showcase events, and the same story holds true in the 2024 club season. Petersen is a new addition to VCNebraska 16 Black and has immediately strengthened the team’s passing and floor defense. Liberos don’t often bring the kind of length that Petersen has. This means 16 Black’s libero has plenty of range and can fill a highlight tape with sprawling saves.

Petersen is a new addition to this year’s VCNebraska 16 Black group, and we already know this is a good fit. Her quickness and defensive instincts have given a boost to what was already a great backcourt unit. Petersen is also longer than many of her libero peers, allowing her to extend past her midline to pick up balls in open areas. She amassed double-digit digs in several matches at the Presidents’ Day Classic and will keep finding her rhythm as the season progresses.

Petersen is one of the most unique liberos we watched at the showcase–and during the club season, for that matter. She presents a bit more height and length than we’re used to seeing at the libero position, but Petersen uses that to her advantage. Her steadiness in first contact is supplemented by the extra range she gets from that long frame. Petersen’s extraordinary 15s campaign with VCN has laid the foundation for many more impactful years to come.

Petersen has set herself apart as one of Nebraska’s biggest early standouts in the Class of 2026. Her knack for reading opposing hitters often leaves her a step ahead of any attacks coming her way. VCN 15 Elite can rely on Petersen to step into the “campfire” for any well-placed shots or take a large portion of the court in serve receive. That’s how a valuable libero operates.

Adding Petersen to the 2026 watch list was a no-brainer. It’s hard to ignore the major backcourt contributions she’s made with VCNebraska 15 Elite, a team that will be hunting an Open bid for the next few weeks.
