About Raven
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
I'm a physical player who loves the moment when everything clicks and there's space to attack. I'm always reading the court, watching how our team flows and where the other side starts to crack. I notice who's pulling defenders and that tells me where the openings are. When I attack, it's because I see something developing, not because I'm trying to force something that isn't there.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
People think I'm shy when they first meet me. Really, I'm just watching and taking everything in. I like to understand what's happening before I react. Pressure is actually when I focus best. I prepare so that when it's time to make a decision, I can trust myself completely.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
Film and screenwriting are huge for me. When I'm not at school or volleyball, I'm taking an online screenwriting course or working with my school's production team on our Dragon TV series. Last summer, I won the Audience Award at the Anacostia Youth Media Festival. That experience helped solidify my interest in pursuing screenwriting and film as a career.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
I finished 100 hours of community service by the end of 10th grade and kept going. I've volunteered with local organizations, worked as a youth leader with the Marion Barry Youth Leadership Institute, and this fall I was selected to travel to Ghana as a global ambassador with Girls Going Global this summer.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
Last spring was brutal. Travel season and school crashed into each other, and I'm in a demanding IB program where the work never stops. I felt completely overwhelmed. It forced me to get serious about managing my time and how I organize everything in my head, which honestly I'm still working on. I had to figure out how to slow down, focus on what really needed my attention, and keep going even whe
What type of college are you looking for?
I need a strong film program for screenwriting in a place where I actually want to live. The school can't be too big but it needs enough going on that I have room to explore and find my people. I want communities outside volleyball where I can build something real. I'm looking to compete hard and be challenged, but with coaches who see me as more than just an athlete.
