Shivakumar was one of the primary offensive contributors for NPJ Portland 15-1 National. Previously, she was seen in the DS/L role but rose to the challenge as an all-around attacker this season. Although undersized, she jumps well and has a quick arm swing, racking up kills by placing the ball in the deep corner. Her ball control abilities were steady.

Shivakumar, a defensive specialist and outside hitter for Valley Catholic, brought consistency and solid first contacts to the Top 250 Expo. Shivakumar is very steady on serve receive; during the Expo, she was putting up great passes off tough serves. With her good first touches on the ball, Shivakumar also created a lot of opportunities for her teammates to score during gameplay. She also was deadly from the baseline with her impressive jump float serve.

Why the rise? ShivaKumar solidified her home in the back row this season, where she impressively anchored her team’s serve receive and defense. ShivaKumar is incredibly quick and reads the attack well, and she covers her hitters effectively. Her constant movement around the court is smooth and effortless. ShivaKumar is also disciplined on defense, popping up any ball that comes her way to kickstart her team’s offense.
