About Vanessa

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I play setter with a scrappy style & high game IQ, always reading the court to make smart decisions. I thrive under pressure & elevate my play when everything is on the line. My focus & quick thinking help keep the team in control during tight moments. I’m committed to doing whatever it takes to lead my team & deliver precise sets that create scoring opportunities, especially in crucial situations

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I'm dedicated to giving 100% in everything I do—on the court, in the classroom, and as a teammate. I take pride in being a strong leader who stays composed & focused under pressure. I lead with energy, encouragement, & a positive mindset, knowing that attitude impacts the whole team. No matter the situation, I stay locked in, support those around me, and always work to the best of my abilities.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I have been involved in student council, where I develop leadership & communication skills. I also participate in the bowling team, which has taught me teamwork & focus. Academically, I have received several awards recognizing my performance in the classroom. These experiences have helped me grow as a well-rounded student, balancing leadership, athletics, & academics successfully.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Being voted Student Body President and captain of both my JV and club volleyball teams helped me develop strong leadership and teamwork skills. I learned how to motivate others, communicate clearly, and lead by example. Completing over 100 hours of community service taught me responsibility and the importance of giving back. These experiences have shaped me into a dedicated, compassionate leader.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I've faced challenges balancing a demanding school workload with high-level club & high school volleyball. Managing practices, travel, & academics taught me discipline & time management. I also worked through an injury, staying committed to recovery while supporting my team. These experiences made me mentally tougher and more determined, & I’ve grown as both a student and an athlete throughout.

What type of college are you looking for?

I'm looking for a college with strong tradition, competitive athletics, & a focus on academic success. I want to study a major that aligns with my goals while playing for coaches who support growth, development, & team culture. Being part of a program that values hard unity is important to me. I’m excited to find a place where I can grow as a student-athlete & contribute to something meaningful.

Comfortability and IQ on full display as she distributes the ball well across the net and moves without hesitation throughout play. Vanessa is decisive and quick in her reactions to the ball, keeping her team in rhythm regardless of the play unfolding before them. Her ability to utilize each of her hitters, wherever they are, is impressive and an obvious key to the team’s offense.
